Barbara Edwards Contemporary is pleased to present our first instalment of the BEC Collector's Series. Led by West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative's William Huffman, the tour will include exclusive access to some rarely seen archival treasures along with a special preview of the 2019 annual print release - a compendium of lithographs, etchings and stone-cuts that have been the hallmark of Cape Dorset art production since 1959.

A small Arctic settlement of 1,400 in the Territory of Nunavut, Cape Dorset is hailed as the most artistic community in Canada. Since the 1950s this tiny hamlet has been recognized for its exquisite and iconic drawings, prints and sculptures. Despite its geographic circumstance, Cape Dorset has sustained an international reputation for its creative industry and continues to develop an unparalleled Inuit art legacy. Cape Dorset's creators are exhibited and collected worldwide and have made Inuit art a quintessentially Canadian form of expression.

Established in 1959, West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative has enjoyed an international reputation for the exquisite prints, drawings and carvings created by its Inuit artist members. In addition to operation of the Kinngait Studios in Cape Dorset, the cooperative maintains a Toronto office, Dorset Fine Arts, which is responsible for interfacing with galleries, museums, cultural professionals, Inuit art enthusiasts and the art market globally.

Barbara Edwards Contemporary is pleased to present Abstract Borders. Curated by Dr. Alma Mikulinsky, the exhibition  presents paintings by leading Canadian and American artists whose abstract artwork explores questions regarding intercultural relationships and cross-border influences. The exhibition will feature paintings spanning the 1960s to 1980s.

Alma Mikulinsky is an art historian and curator specializing in 20th century European art and contemporary  international art.  Among her projects have been managing the world's second largest collection of Pablo Picasso's Ceramics, curating a block-buster exhibition in Hong Kong as well as shows of contemporary art in Toronto and Santiago de Chile. Her writing was commissioned by prestigious institutions such as Musée National Picasso-Paris and the Tate Modern in London. She is currently working on an ACI book on Sorel Etrog to be published in the fall of 2019.

Barbara Edwards Contemporary is pleased to present a group exhibition comprising important works by distinguished Canadian and international artists. While each piece takes as its focus the human form, the featured artists diverge in their methods of conceptual investigation and stylistic execution. This exhibit showcases the capacity of the human figural depiction to transcend its status as a genre of convention and offer a vibrant locus for the exploration of both the physical and the metaphysical: articulating the body offers a language at once visual, tactile, kinetic and emotional.
