At some point during their week, nearly every camper at BCC learned how to be "the spotter." At the high ropes course, rock wall, and occasionally on a low ropes element, there is a need to add an extra level of support for any participant climbing up in the air. When teaching about proper spotting techniques, the staff member will share that spotters aren't there to catch, they are there to support and guide the climber so that they can either get to the ground or back onto the ladder or rock wall safely.
99% of the time a spotter's main job is to cheer and encourage. It's that 1% of the time, when something out of the ordinary happens, that everyone is glad the spotter is taking their support role seriously. High ropes and the rock wall continue to be some of the safest areas at camp because of the intentional effort to put support systems into place.
As we reflect back on this summer, it's impossible to imagine camp without our layers of intentional support - volunteers, parents, congregations, alumni, and community members. Each of you reading this email in your unique way were spotters for the work that was being done here at camp. We felt the enthusiastic encouragement and we appreciated everyone that stepped in to lend a hand - particularly those that were part of laying the groundwork in the months leading up to Summer 2023. Thank You!
