The Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce is working on our
Annual Holiday Shopping Card Promotion for November 24 (Small Business Saturday)
through December 31, 2018.  The program is a continuation of our active
Buy Local Initiative and is a way to encourage the Bethlehem community
to support local businesses during the holiday shopping season before making
trips to area malls and Black Friday sales.

Participation is open to
Member and Non-Member businesses.


10,000 cards are printed in November and distributed:
* 2018 Bethlehem Turkey Trot: As a sponsor, the Chamber distributes cards to
approximately 3,000 participants during Pre-Registration
* Spotlight Newspaper: Chamber inserts Holiday Cards into 5,000+ papers
(11/21/18 edition) distributed by mail and on newsstands in town.
* Community locations: Bethlehem Town Hall, Bethlehem Public Library, local post offices, Bethlehem Chamber office, Saturday and Tuesday Farmers Markets
* Member and Participating Businesses: Cards are given to member and participating
businesses to distribute to customers


Advertising is purchased locally to make the
community  aware of the program.


Deadline to participate is Friday, October 26.

MEMBER NEWS & EVENTS

Bethlehem Public Library is conducting a community survey seeking input about how people are using the library and what services are of most value. As the board of trustees begins a long-range planning discussion, they are looking to balance the maintenance and upkeep needs of the 45-year-old building with the kinds of community-supported enhancements that will allow it to grow with and be a reflection of the community it serves. Public input is key in helping the trustees and library staff make those decisions. The survey was mailed to homes in the Bethlehem Central School District and is also available in a larger print paper edition at the library and online. Click here to take the survey.  And don't miss their popular Costume Swap this Friday! New this year - they are accepting adult sizes. Drop off gently used costumes by Thursday, 10/18, and receive  a ticket to pick out a different one on the day of the swap (Friday, 10/19, from 5-7pm).

Halloween is right around the corner, and Albany Braces is running their Annual Candy Buy Back program in their Delmar, Albany and Latham locations on November 1. They will buy back your candy at $2 per pound. Proceeds will be matched by Albany Braces and donated to a charity chosen by the office. Candy will be donated to various organizations in the Capital District.

Jai Yoga School has  something SPOOKTACULAR planned for the kiddos this month. Join  Sabrina Saturday, October 20, for a fun afternoon of Family Yoga - the Halloween edition! There will be lots of fun yoga inspired crafts, games, snacks, team-building exercises, and so much more! Costumes are welcome, Elementary grade level. Click here to sign up.

Art on the Rail Trail and O'Slattery's Irish Restaurant & Pub have partnered up for  a fundraiser event to support the next mural on the Rail Trail. Enjoy live music by  Little Jack, raffles and plenty of good times for all. Friday, October 19, at O'Slattery's.

The Delmar Community Orchestra, under the direction of Michael Blostein, will present a Fall Concert on Monday, October 22, at 7:30pm at the Delmar Reformed Church. The concert, which will include both classical selections and pops, is FREE and open to the public. 

Paint Your Own Pumpkin Tuesday, October 23, from 4-6pm with the Town of Bethlehem at the Elm Avenue Park Warming Area. Pre-registration is required at the Park Office, $5, all ages are welcome (pumpkins and supplies are provided).

Want to learn more about the opioid epidemic? Join the Delmar First United Methodist Church for a 6- week community program. Explore the epidemic and gain an understanding  about how it touches so many lives in our families and community. The next 90-minute program begins on October 21 at 6pm and the role of doctors in perpetuating opioid addiction and how medicine is responding to the crisis will be discussed.  View the flyer for details. Patriot Flight is presenting their  3rd Annual Essay Contest. It is open to ALL High School students, and two winners will receive a 1-day, all expense paid trip to the Memorials in Washington DC with veterans from WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War. See attached flyer for details.

The Bethlehem Historical Association presents  Geology, Landscape and the Iroquois Homeland tomorrow, October 18, at 7pm The bedrock of New York and its erosion created the landscape where the Iroquois peoples made their home.  It influenced their territorial boundaries, defenses, settlement patterns, trail systems, agriculture, and use of key resources. Dr. Chuck Ver Straeten will explore these connections in his talk Geology, Landscape and the Iroquois Homeland. The talk will be held at the Cedar Hill Schoolhouse Museum, 1003 River Road Selkirk. Doors open at 6:30pm and the FREE talk will be followed by refreshments. All are welcome!

The Tuesday Delmar Farmers Market is open for the season on Tuesdays, 2:30-6pm, at  Delmar First United Methodist Church , 428 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar. Stop by for the first of the season produce and farm fresh items. 

The Saturday Delmar Farmers Market  is open for the season on Saturdays, 9am-1pm at the Bethlehem Middle School on Kenwood Avenue.  Visit the website for details. 

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays between 10 AM and 2 PM, the Town of Bethlehem accepts donations for Habitat ReStore of the Capital District of slightly used furnishings, cabinets, and other building materials at the Town of Bethlehem Transfer Station, 136 Rupert Rd, Selkirk, NY.
