M arcus passes this word along to you from
Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II:

Dr. Barber speaks at Monday's event
"On Monday
, we worked together, organized together, and stood together to do something historic.

In 30 state capitols and the District of Columbia, rabbis, imams, priests and preachers stood with people impacted by unjust policies to declare, in one voice, that some issues are not liberal or conservative, but right versus wrong.
I was in tears as I watched  hundreds of news storiescome in from across the country"...

From the Minister Search Committee

The Minister Search Committee began their journey with a wonderful retreat at the  Cedar Cross Retreat Center . We are all honored to serve and excited to begin working together! We've chosen a chairperson: Larry McManus, and a secretary: Lucy VanderKamp, and have created a Covenant for our work together (view the Covenant here). The committee was commissioned in front of the church on Sunday, August 28. We have met twice since then.

All have expressed gratitude for the leadership of Marcus McFaul and the amazing work of the Transition Team which will guide our search.
Wednesday Night Series
 Sept. 21, 5:30-7 pm, Lounge

On Sept. 21, we will learn more about church finances, budgeting, giving, and use of new technologies for church stewardship from Wayne Price. If you've had any burning questions regarding our Binkley finances, this is the program for you!  Please check 'Event' in the Friendship register on Sunday morning as your reservation, or contact the church office by noon on Wednesday.

The meal begins at 5:30 pm and the presentation is from 6-7 pm. Children are welcome for the meal and are then invited to participate in Children's Choir with Daniel at 6 pm in Room 15. Cost for the meal is $6 for adults, $3 for children.

Coming Up:
Norman Wirzba
On September 28, Norman Wirzba, a theologian on faculty at Duke Divinity School, will join us. Our first two Wednesday nights were spent discussing
Way of Love: Recovering the Heart of Christianity by Dr. Wirzba. During his visit, he will lead further discussion of his book, and copies will be available for purchase and signing. This is a treat for our community-so don't miss it, and don't forget to bring a friend.

Binkley Family Update

Ken Williams - who recently completed his service with our Transition Team -  has accepted the invitation to serve as Interim Executive Minister for the American Baptist Churches of Connecticut (ABCCONN). He'll begin his work
October 1 . He'll oversee the resourcing of the 120 congregations of ABCCONN while a search committee works to find the permanent successor to the Rev'd Dr. Judy Allbee, who retired after 12 years in the executive role. The search may take anywhere between six and eighteen months. Ken's spouse, Peg, will continue her interim role with Community United Church of Christ in Raleigh until that congregation names it's new pastor. She will then join Ken for the balance of his term in Connecticut. Their temporary home will be in Hartford, CT.

Are you registered to vote this November?  Have you moved since the last election?  Voting in elections is a critical right of citizenship and is an important way that citizens can influence the direction of public policy.

As a result of court rulings, voter ID will NOT be required in November.  Also, early voting hours and locations in Orange County have been set.

If you would like updates on early voting or changes in the election laws since the last election, or to update your registration, please look for information in the narthex.  You also can contact Jerry VanSant ( jvansant@mail.com ), Sondra VanSant (ssvansant@mindspring.com), or Paul Lindsay ( plindsay2@aol.com ) who can give you information on any of the above items or help you register to vote.

Staff Announcement

The Leadership Team is providing Emergency Family Leave September 3-October 3, 2016 for Stephanie Ford. The time away from all church responsibilities and electronic communications will provide space and energy to address these needs.
