Church Office Hours
The church office is closing today, Friday, June 8, at 12 pm. The staff will be in a meeting with our consultant, David Brubaker, and will be away from phone and email until late afternoon.
Would you like to add something celebratory to your Sunday morning? Early Worship kicks off THIS SUNDAY at 9:45 until 10:30 in the Lounge. For families of all configurations, ages and sizes, we actively learn about the stories of Jesus. ("Actively learn?" Come and find out what that even means!) And we sing uplifting songs with one of our favorite guitarists. We share our joys and concerns, personal ones and those for the greater world. Children feel free to answer open-ended questions and just be kids. Come check it out. You'll experience church in a whole new way.
Lunch and Learn with The Reference Team
June 10, Post-Worship
The Reference Team and our consultant, David Brubaker invite you to an after worship service lunch and learn opportunity to hear from each other in the congregation. David Brubaker will report on major themes and their frequency of response during the April and May Cottage Meetings. Then, the Reference Team members will facilitate a focused group discussion on the topic of a congregational behavioral covenant. What is a congregational behavioral covenant? A congregational behavioral covenant is an agreement outlining what God is calling the congregation to be and how we will live out that calling with one another. A light meal and childcare will be provided. You are welcome to attend even if you did not RSVP.
Reference Team: Meredith Bratcher, Nancy Cheek, Tom Fewel, Tonya Hamm, Matthew Ripley-Moffitt, Jenny Walters, Don Willhoit and David Brubaker, consultant
The Earth Ministries Committee now issues the June Jaunt Challenge . At the Earth Day outdoor service Marcus asked attendees to shout out natural areas they had visited. The responses spurred us to issue this challenge for all Binkley members and friends: take a roll, stroll, walk, run, bike, hike, canoe or kayak visit to a nearby park, reserve, lake or other natural area during the month of June. Then please share where you went and any comments you wish to make about your outdoor adventure on note cards that will be provided in the Narthex or that you bring to place on the table. We will compile a list of visited places and share that with the congregation – to spur future outdoor experiences.

Binkley VBS
Register by June 10
June 25-29
Summer is almost here, and so is VBS! Our theme is Peace Lab,  and children will learn stories of peace-making from the Bible. Children who are 4 years old (by July 1, 2018) through rising sixth graders are welcome, 9-12:15, for five mornings of worship, story, music, arts and crafts, and snack-outdoor play time.  Please invite friends and reach out to neighbors!  VBS is one of our best intergenerational learning events! Youth who have completed 6th grade and older are welcome to serve as shepherds or helpers.

Registration forms available here , or outside Stephanie Ford's door.
Binkley T-Shirts
Binkley T-shirts are for sale again this year. We hope everyone who plans to attend Binkley Night at the Durham Bulls on July 28 will purchase one, as well as anyone else who wants one! Shirts are $12 each, due at time of order. Order deadline is June 25. Shirts will be delivered by July 23 to the church for pickup.

Order forms will be in bulletins June 10, 17, and 24, or you can download one here .
Card Writing Ministry
There is one slot open on the Binkley Card-Writing Ministry! This quiet, caring ministry has 12 members who take one month each and write a card to folks on the Binkley prayer list (average of 15-20). We are looking for just the right person to fill the month of November. If you are the kind of person who still hopes your mailbox will hold a hand-written note, if you have a knack for writing a kind and compassionate card on behalf of our congregation, if you are willing to make this important commitment -- please contact Libby Fosso at  mcfosso@bellsouth.net . We are a group of folks who eschew committee meetings, but whose collective words make meaningful connections among friends.

Help for Rosa
Rosa, who is in sanctuary at Church of the Rec, has discovered a passion for jewelry making. Having a productive way to spend her time has lifted her spirits and also given her hope that she might soon be able to sell some of the pieces she has made to contribute to her children’s care. On June 3 and 10, Ashley Nissler will be in the narthex before and after church with a basket collecting beads for Rosa. If you have jewelry (primarily with beads) you no longer wear that she could take apart and make into something new (or even jewelry making you know you’ll never use again), it would be greatly appreciated. If you have questions, please contact Ashley Nissler at  ranissler@mindspring.com .
