From Our Pastor
Wasn't Youth Sunday last week, superb? And wasn't the Children's Musical on the previous Sunday, super-duper? YES!!!

My colleagues Dale, Stephanie, and Daniel do extraordinary ministry with our children and youth, making each one feel valued, loved, and comfortable offering their own gifts in the collective worship of a loving and gracious God. Would that children of all ages across the wide earth could be so embraced and included. Their Sunday School teachers, youth leaders-sponsors, choral assistants, and involved parents all combine to form a significant partnership in forming caring and kind disciples of Jesus.

This summer there are any number of other opportunities for meaningful inter-generational activities; Vacation Bible School, Family Retreat at Blowing Rock, Durham Bulls baseball game, early worship in the lounge at 9:45 a.m., among them.
Being involved with and interested in our kids lives brings such wonderful gifts to all of us. An affirmation of the dignity, worth, and beauty of each young person is essential for healthy development; we embrace that responsibility seriously (and joyfully!) around here. As the program year ends and the summer season is upon us, I want to thank all of you who have made such strong contributions to the ministries of children and youth.

This Sunday at 11 a.m. we will commemorate World Refugee Day and remember that lifting up the dignity, worth, and beauty of each child, each parent, regardless of nationality or borders, is part of our sacred calling as Christians. My sermon, entitled "(In)Sightings," will be drawn from I Samuel 15; I hope to see you this Sunday.

With much love for you,
Marcus McFaul

Summary of Cottage Meeting Conversations
The report linked below summarizes focus group conversations held in 10 cottage and interest-group meetings with Binkley Church, with approximately 70 total participants. The Reference Team facilitated the conversations, oriented around six questions, in April and May 2018. Some important themes can be seen in their notes from these meetings, and they are presented here . Hard copies of the report will be available at the church.
Ministerial Staff on
Retreat June 19-20
Our Ministerial staff will be away from the office on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week for a planning retreat. Please pray for safe travels and a productive time of planning and team building.
This year, our focus turns to worship and its enlivening place in our spiritual journeys as individuals and as a faith community. Brad Berglund, author of  Reinventing Sundays , as well as a gifted musician and minister, will be our guide. All ages will appreciate Brad’s personal, creative, and engaging style. There will also be time for nature hikes, arts and crafts, a scavenger hunt, outdoor games, and a yearly tradition: a delightful talent show on Saturday evening. All talents welcome! Please contact Stephanie Ford if you have questions. The retreat begins Friday evening and concludes on Sunday morning; 4 meals and 2 nights.  Registration forms available HERE or at Stephanie Ford’s door.
The Earth Ministries Committee now issues the June Jaunt Challenge . At the Earth Day outdoor service Marcus asked attendees to shout out natural areas they had visited. The responses spurred us to issue this challenge for all Binkley members and friends: take a roll, stroll, walk, run, bike, hike, canoe or kayak visit to a nearby park, reserve, lake or other natural area during the month of June. Then please share where you went and any comments you wish to make about your outdoor adventure on note cards that will be provided in the Narthex or that you bring to place on the table. We will compile a list of visited places and share that with the congregation – to spur future outdoor experiences.
