July 2017
I hope you have been enjoying the summer months so far. Our students will soon be returning to campus after a summer filled with research, jobs and hopefully, time to relax and rejuvenate themselves for the busy semester ahead.  White Coat Ceremony is quickly approaching.  I will once again have the honor of leading our new first-year medical students in the Hippocratic Oath at the Ceremony.  This is an awesome moment and I treasure this opportunity.  After this, our students will jump into the new semester, and be seeing patients before you know it!
I invite you to take a look at this month's Alumni Spotlight. Jeffrey Johnson, MD,  shares his own fond memories of spending time with classmates and getting to know impactful professors. If you too would like to be featured in an upcoming month, you can submit your responses here.
I also invite you to take a look at Boston University Medicine, our school magazine.  This special edition takes the time to remember those students who met their soul-mates in medical school.  The cover story, "There's always time to fall in love. Even in medical school," highlights just that. In response to this story, alumna Sharon Fletcher-Daley, MED '81, wrote us:
"My husband, Joe, (BUSGD '81) and I met in anatomy lab. The legendary Dr. McNary was our professor. Our cadavers had been husband and wife! They were 2 tables apart, and we spent a lot of time together in anatomy lab! When folks ask us how we met, we can say "over dead bodies." We've been married 35 years!"
Thank you, Dr. Fletcher-Daley.  That is SO great!  If you have a story to share, please do so  here! The number of BUSM alumni couples is about 200 and growing. We are always happy to hear your stories and find a platform on which to share them.

All the best,

Vice Chair of Education and Program Director of Ophthalmology
