School of Medicine Alumni Newsletter
What an exciting few weeks it has been at BUSM! We closed out September with our annual Scholarship Dinner, where donors and recipients met for the first time at Hotel Commonwealth. Students shared their stories about their own paths in medical school and how the generosity of donors has significantly impacted their experience at BUSM. We also had two nights of Phonathon calling, during which alumni and current students interacted and connected with alumni across the country. Together, they raised $45,000 in pledges from 60 alumni. Incredible! To see photos from that event and many others happening on campus, friend BUSM Alums on Facebook. We have one more day of calling coming up on Saturday, November 19, so if your phone rings, it's probable there is a medical student on the other line eager to speak with you.
The annual bestowal of stethoscopes is right around the corner for first-year students. As part of the Stethoscope Program, generous alumni like yourself give the students this gift that symbolizes being one step closer to becoming a doctor. If you remember the momentous day you received your stethoscope and wish to give back through this growing program, we invite you to learn more about the program and its impact.
Last month, we announced the return of Jonathan Woodson, M.D. to BU, as well as his new role in spearheading the university-wide Institute for Health System Innovation and Policy. Please join me in welcoming him back to our community! Formerly a professor at BUSM and SPH, among other roles, Woodson will now be working out of the BU Questrom School of Business. There, his work will include uniting at least nine BU schools and colleges for this incredible initiative. Enjoy the changing seasons and, as always, stay connected! Visit the campus, learn about upcoming events, or reach out if you have news to share.
Best wishes,
