Message from the Superintendent
Dear Members of the Bowling Green City Schools Community,
Election Day is just over a month away and early voting begins next Tuesday, October 8. The district’s
goal is to ensure you have up-to-date and adequate information regarding the district’s levy request to
make an informed decision. In an attempt to provide this information, a frequently asked questions
document is available, I have created two videos on the topic of this levy, and I will be giving
presentations at the Wood County Senior Center and at the October Board of Education meeting. Here
are quick links to each abovementioned informational items along with date and times of the upcoming
presentations:

levy.
In the very near future, all residents of the Bowling Green City Schools district will be receiving a revived
printed newsletter! Revitalizing our school district newsletter marks a significant step in enhancing
transparency and keeping our community well-informed. By integrating this with our comprehensive
communication strategy, which includes daily social media updates, bi-monthly e-newsletters, bi-
monthly radio spots on The Morning Show, Superintendent Coffee Chats (The next one is at Grounds for Thought on October 23 from 5-6 p.m.), and a newly refreshed website, we aim to provide a clear and consistent flow of information. This multifaceted approach underscores our commitment to ensuring that every community member stays engaged and up-to-date with the latest developments and opportunities within our district. We plan to have two printed newsletters each year to help inform our community.
I am honored to serve the students, families, community, and staff of Bowling Green City Schools. I
promise that our District will work hard to improve each day to provide a high-quality education for our
students, a financially sound organization for our stakeholders, and be a point of pride for the entire
community.
Go Bobcats,
Dr. Ted Haselman
Superintendent

Excitement Builds for Homecoming 2024
Tonight, our community will come together for one of the most anticipated events of the year: the Homecoming football game! We are thrilled to welcome back many of our alumni to cheer on our Bobcat football team and celebrate our school spirit.
Our incredible student leadership group, StuCrew, has been hard at work preparing for this special week. They kicked things off with a high-energy Spirit Week, featuring a variety of creative daily themes. Students showed off their school spirit during Minion Monday, Adam Sandler Day, On Wednesdays We Wear Pink, Neon Day, and Jersey Day.
StuCrew also took charge of organizing the Powderpuff football game, decorating the hallways to build excitement, and preparing for the Homecoming dance. Additionally, they managed ticket sales for the dance, which will take place tomorrow night, Saturday, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the high school. The theme this year is "Tangled," and students are looking forward to a magical evening.
This afternoon’s Pep Rally brought even more enthusiasm as the school band played, cheerleaders led the crowd, and the 2024 Homecoming Court, the Rose Court and fall athletes were recognized. The Homecoming king and queen will be announced just before tonight’s game, adding to the night’s excitement.
We are proud to introduce this year’s Homecoming Court members:
- Class of 2025: Jay Shannon, Sophie Spitler, Tyler Boice, Averie Crawford, Tomas Meek, and Madison Cowan.
- Penta: Ryan Taylor and Adyson Myers.
- Class of 2026: Ben Reinegal and Molly Boblitt.
- Class of 2027: Sam Wiles and Mack Maxey.
- Class of 2028: Jordan Cowan and Kale Smith.
Additionally, congratulations to the 2024 Rose Court honorees:
- Tyler Boice, Samuel Challu, Madison Cowan, Tara Hastings, Tessa Kirchner, Elena Kramer, Treyvon Ladler, Addie Naus, Annie Oberlander, Brogan Pasley, Isaac Sands, Jay Shannon, Sophie Spitler, and Liam Triggs.
We look forward to seeing everyone tonight at the Homecoming football game and tomorrow at the dance! This weekend is a wonderful celebration of tradition, school pride, and the community spirit that makes our school special. Go Bobcats!

Bowling Green Middle School hosted a Manufacturing Day event in collaboration with BG Economic Development and local manufacturing businesses including Betco, Campbells, GKN Driveline, Lubrizol, Marathon Special Products, NuProduce Solutions, Phoenix Technologies International, Principal Business Enterprises, and TH Plastics. It took place in the middle school gymnasium. Students received "passports" and had the opportunity to visit interactive stations set up by these companies. Students asked questions about the businesses and learned about career opportunities.
The goal of Manufacturing Day is to introduce students to the world of modern manufacturing and to highlight job opportunities available in our community. Many of these jobs are in high demand and are perfect for students who plan to enter the workforce right after high school or plan to pursue a two-year degree. This is a great chance for students to explore career options and see what the future could hold!

Juniors and seniors attended the Think Fast Interactive presentation by Wood County Safe Communities. This engaging program combined music, videos, and an interactive game show, all while delivering important messages about distracted driving, seat belt safety, and the dangers of drunk driving. The fun gameshow style presentation kept students engaged while they had fun learning important messages to keep them safe while driving. They also had the chance to win Amazon gift cards!
5th Grade Outdoor Education Camp
Our fifth grade students recently attended Camp Michindoh for their annual Outdoor Education Camp. This week-long adventure, a part of the fifth grade science curriculum, allowed students to unplug from technology, connect with nature, and bond with classmates. For many, it was their first time away from home. Students participated in hands-on activities such as canoeing, archery, rock climbing, campfire building, orienteering, fishing, and tie-dying t-shirts. They learned about reptiles, amphibians, and mammals and more. They also visited a pioneer village and performed group skits.
Thank you to our staff, BGHS student volunteers, and Officer Short who spent the week with our fifth grade students! We are so grateful for your time, energy, and dedication this week at outdoor camp. You’ve created unforgettable memories and learning experiences for our students, and your hard work behind the scenes made everything possible. Thank you for leading with enthusiasm, care, and love for our students! Thank you to all of the donors for making this experience possible to offer every fifth grader the opportunity to attend camp!

Our Crim Elementary and Kenwood Elementary students teamed up with Toledo Zoo staff for a bioblitz event! A bioblitz is where the students attempted to identify and document as many plants, animals and insects as possible. Bowling Green Middle School science students also utilized the the outdoor Lubrizol Learning Lab, exploring the middle school prairie and documented their findings as well! Crim fourth graders explored Bowling Green Parks & Recreation Wintergarden Park, partnering with NWO STEM and BGSU education majors to collect vital scientific data for NASA including soil, air, and surface temperatures. They engaged in seed drops and documented local flora and fauna. Meanwhile, our Kenwood students conducted their measurements right on their school prairie! It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to dive into real-world science and connect with nature.
