Message from the Superintendent

Dear Members of the Bowling Green City Schools Community,

I am hopeful you enjoyed the first edition of the Bowling Green City Schools e-newsletter, which was distributed for the first time two weeks ago, July 26. Our goal is to provide all stakeholders of our community and school district with information about our schools through different means, with the newly established e-newsletter being one communication method.

Another communication tool we have implemented to help keep our community informed about BGCS is our partnership with The Morning Show (WBGU 88.1 FM). Working with host Clint Corpe, I, or another representative of the district, will be on air the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 a.m. Please tune in on August 14 to hear the latest happenings of the district through this ongoing radio spot.

We are looking forward to a great 2024-25 school year. One week from today, August 16, all BGCS staff will officially return and be ready to take on the new school year. Building Open House events take place on Monday, August 19, and our students begin returning to school on Tuesday, August 20. The start of a school year is always an exciting time!

I am honored to serve the students, families, community, and staff of Bowling Green City Schools. I promise that our district will work hard to improve each day to provide a high-quality education for our students, a financially sound organization for our stakeholders, and be a point of pride for the entire community.

Go Bobcats,

Dr. Ted Haselman

Superintendent

Bowling Green Schools Foundation Celebrates 25 Years of Support

The Bowling Green Schools Foundation (BGSF) is celebrating its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century of dedicated support to Bowling Green City Schools. Since its inception in 1999, BGSF, a registered 501(c)3 charitable organization, has contributed significantly to our community by distributing hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships, teacher grants, and funding for student programs.

25th Anniversary Banquet

To commemorate this milestone, BGSF is organizing a series of celebratory events this fall, including a 25th anniversary banquet on Monday, October 14th at the Wood County Senior Center.

The banquet will honor the community members, alumni and staff who have been instrumental in making our schools a premier place to learn and grow. Notably, Scott Hamilton, Class of 1976 and Olympic gold medalist, will be honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award for his professional success and commitment to service.

Community Member of the Year and Excellence in Education Awards

The Foundation will also recognize recipients of the Community Member of the Year and Excellence in Education Awards, and is currently seeking nominations from the community.

The deadline to nominate individuals for these awards is 5 p.m. on August 19, 2024.

25 Acts of Service

Additionally, the "25 Acts of Service" initiative encourages students to engage in acts of service throughout the 2024-25 school year, fostering a spirit of giving back.

In partnership with local community organizations, the BG Schools Foundation is encouraging each student, grades K-12 to perform 25 Acts of Service over the course of the 2024-25 school year.

Calendars of scheduled and suggested opportunities will be provided to students in both elementary and secondary grades. Those students meeting and/or exceeding the 25 Acts of Service will be eligible for prizes and incentives promoting a culture of service to the community.

For more details on these events and how to get involved, visit bgschoolsfoundation.com/25 or contact info@bgschoolsfoundation.com.

Bobcat Strength: A New Era

for BGHS Athletic Facilities

The weight room at Bowling Green High School had seen little change since it was first outfitted. In the 1990s, football coaches joked with new assistants that the equipment would soon be replaced. Today’s athletic demands call for newer methods, more space, and better equipment to keep our teams competitive. If we hope to compete with rivals, we need athletes who are faster and stronger. It was time to turn that long-standing jest into reality.

We are excited to announce a major upgrade to our athletic facilities thanks to the generous donation of $55,000 from the Bobcat Athletic Foundation. Individuals and businesses who contributed $500 or more towards this initiative are recognized with their name on a plaque in the weight room.

The weight room now features state-of-the-art equipment designed to meet the needs of all sports programs at BGHS. The weight room also got a fresh paint job and new inspirational signs. This upgrade will provide our athletes with the tools they need to reach their full potential.

Bobcat Athletic Foundation Board President, Ryan Phipps, shared his thoughts saying, “I was filled with pride to see how many alumni and generous community members answered the call so quickly. We are lucky to have so many individuals who care about our youth.”

These improvements bring much-needed energy to our current and future space, ensuring that our athletes have the best possible environment to train and excel. BGHS Varsity Head Football Coach Shawn Kiss said, "The new equipment provides our athletes with the tools they need to reach their full potential and compete at the highest level. It’s an investment in the future of our program and the success of our athletes. The coaches and players love our ability to have new updated equipment to help us develop the physical tools needed to be a successful program in order to make the school district and community proud of our Bobcat Football Program. We would like to personally thank the Bobcat Athletic Foundation and all of the donors that made this possible."

About the Bobcat Athletic Foundation

Established in 2017, the Bobcat Athletic Foundation enhances the athletic facilities of Bowling Green City Schools through donations and endowment income, benefiting students and citizens of Bowling Green, Ohio. This community initiative is a 501(c)(3) organization, making any donation fully tax-deductible. While the foundation works closely with the BGHS athletic director and coaches to determine which projects to fund, it operates independently of Bowling Green City Schools and Bobcat Boosters.

2024 Clean Plate Awards

Out of over 800 licensed food facilities in Wood County, only 38 were honored with Wood County Health Department's 2024 Clean Plate Award, and four of them were our schools! Congratulations to Bowling Green High School, Bowling Green Middle School, Conneaut Elementary School and Crim Elementary School food service staff!

"Wood County food service operations and retail food establishments who receive the Clean Plate Award have worked hard to ensure that food safety is their top priority. The criteria for this award are above and beyond what is required, and we believe these facilities deserve recognition,” said Lana Glore, Director of Environmental Health at Wood County Health Department.

"We are immensely proud of our staff for their unwavering commitment to food safety and sanitation. This award is a testament to their hard work and dedication to providing a safe and healthy environment for our students," said BGCS Food Service Director Tabitha Hiler-Young.

Each awarded school received a certificate of excellence and a decal to proudly display their achievement.
