At Bowling Green City Schools, the arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education. Through music, visual arts, theater, and digital media, our students develop creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills that enrich their learning and prepare them for the future. Whether performing on stage or creating in the studio, the arts give students opportunities to express themselves, explore new perspectives, and connect with their community.
This year, we are proud to highlight the accomplishments of our music students who earned recognition through the 2026 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) All-State Ensembles. Selected from among hundreds of applicants across the state, these students represent some of Ohio’s finest young musicians and will perform in January at the OMEA Professional Development Conference in Columbus.

Our students are also sharing their artistic talents at the Black Swamp Arts Festival this weekend. BGCS art students from Conneaut, Crim, Kenwood, Bowling Green Middle School, and Bowling Green High School painted snowplow blades which will be displayed as road barriers during the festival and later used by the city in the winter. The high school plow features a design inspired by Ohio-born painter Charles Burchfield and his watercolor, “An April Mood,” while the middle school plow showcases vibrant dancing figures in the style of Keith Haring, known for his bold, pop-art designs.
In addition, BGHS will be represented by three Chalk Walk teams in this year’s competition, themed “Honoring the Greats.” Students will create temporary murals on North Main Street near the Family Stage from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Saturday, adding color and creativity to the festival streetscape.
The Madrigals Choir will also perform during Beats on the Street on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., joining other area high school ensembles between 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. to bring live music to the heart of downtown
Many of our students are also giving back by volunteering in the Youth Art area, helping lead hands-on activities such as tie-dye and crafts.
BGHS art teacher, Regina Hilton, will showcase her ceramic work in the Local Artists area, located in the parking lot near the BGCS Administrative Offices.
Last weekend, our Jazz Cats Band participated in the Detroit Jazz Festival and our Marching Band plays every Friday night for football games and performs at community events - most recently at Rally BG, and they will be performing in the AW Band Festival in a few weeks.
The BGHS Drama Club just held auditions for their fall play, Clue, which will be performed November 6-8.
Tonight, our fifth grade music students will be singing the National Anthem before the Varsity football game.
There are many upcoming band concerts, choir concerts, and orchestra concerts in the PAC toward the end of September through mid-October.
Together, these efforts shine a spotlight on the many ways our Bobcats contribute to and celebrate the arts in our community—showing how the arts enrich learning, build connections, and inspire creativity.
