Message from the Superintendent

Dear Members of the Bowling Green City Schools Community,

We are off to a fantastic start to the 2025–26 school year! As we wrap up the first few weeks, there continues to be a real sense of energy and enthusiasm throughout our buildings. Students and staff are settling into daily routines, and we’re excited about the opportunities this new year holds.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who visits our high school and middle school campus. The new traffic flow and parking patterns have been working very well, and that’s thanks to your cooperation and support. We knew it would take everyone’s effort, and we’re proud to say that our students are staying safe and traffic continues to move smoothly on and off campus.

Looking ahead, I invite you to join us on Tuesday, September 9 at 6:00 PM in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) for a New Bowling Green High School Construction Update presentation. Representatives from our architectural firm, the DLR Group, will be on hand to present updated images and walk us through how the final designs were determined. Many stakeholders were a part of the design conversations and we are excited to show what our building will offer our BGCS students. We welcome all community members, staff, and students to come and learn more about this exciting project.

Speaking of the new Bowling Green High School, if you’ve driven by the site lately, you’ve probably noticed the transformation underway. With design work wrapping up, active construction is now progressing daily and the site is changing before our eyes! We are pleased to report that the project remains on budget and on schedule, with completion expected in Fall 2027, just two years from now.

This is truly an exciting time for Bowling Green City Schools. Our district’s momentum is strong and the future is bright. It is a great time to be a Bobcat!

I am honored to serve the students, families, community, and staff of Bowling Green City Schools. I promise that our District will continue to work hard to improve each day to provide a high-quality education for our students, a financially sound organization for our stakeholders, and be a point of pride for the entire community.

Go Bobcats,

Dr. Ted Haselman

Superintendent

Celebrating the Arts at BGCS: All-State Ensembles, Student Art, and Performances.

At Bowling Green City Schools, the arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education. Through music, visual arts, theater, and digital media, our students develop creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills that enrich their learning and prepare them for the future. Whether performing on stage or creating in the studio, the arts give students opportunities to express themselves, explore new perspectives, and connect with their community.

This year, we are proud to highlight the accomplishments of our music students who earned recognition through the 2026 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) All-State Ensembles. Selected from among hundreds of applicants across the state, these students represent some of Ohio’s finest young musicians and will perform in January at the OMEA Professional Development Conference in Columbus.

Congratulations to our All-State Ensemble honorees:

  • All-State Band: Corinna Kramer
  • All-State Children’s Choir: Emily Arnett, Emmett Hanna, Morgan Hofmann, Quinn Schneider
  • All-State Choir: Cole Boswell, Julia Barnett, Calista Motisher, Ariah Rodriguez, Aidan Thomas; alternate: Amelia Bryant
  • All-State Orchestra: Isaac Metzger; alternates: Tess Challu, Robert Stygles
  • All-State Jazz Band: alternate – Robert Stygles
  • Regional Orchestra: Tess Challu, Isaac Metzger, Robert Stygles

Our students are also sharing their artistic talents at the Black Swamp Arts Festival this weekend. BGCS art students from Conneaut, Crim, Kenwood, Bowling Green Middle School, and Bowling Green High School painted snowplow blades which will be displayed as road barriers during the festival and later used by the city in the winter. The high school plow features a design inspired by Ohio-born painter Charles Burchfield and his watercolor, “An April Mood,” while the middle school plow showcases vibrant dancing figures in the style of Keith Haring, known for his bold, pop-art designs.

In addition, BGHS will be represented by three Chalk Walk teams in this year’s competition, themed “Honoring the Greats.” Students will create temporary murals on North Main Street near the Family Stage from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Saturday, adding color and creativity to the festival streetscape.

The Madrigals Choir will also perform during Beats on the Street on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., joining other area high school ensembles between 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. to bring live music to the heart of downtown

Many of our students are also giving back by volunteering in the Youth Art area, helping lead hands-on activities such as tie-dye and crafts.

BGHS art teacher, Regina Hilton, will showcase her ceramic work in the Local Artists area, located in the parking lot near the BGCS Administrative Offices.

Last weekend, our Jazz Cats Band participated in the Detroit Jazz Festival and our Marching Band plays every Friday night for football games and performs at community events - most recently at Rally BG, and they will be performing in the AW Band Festival in a few weeks.

The BGHS Drama Club just held auditions for their fall play, Clue, which will be performed November 6-8.

Tonight, our fifth grade music students will be singing the National Anthem before the Varsity football game.

There are many upcoming band concerts, choir concerts, and orchestra concerts in the PAC toward the end of September through mid-October.

Together, these efforts shine a spotlight on the many ways our Bobcats contribute to and celebrate the arts in our community—showing how the arts enrich learning, build connections, and inspire creativity.

Celebrating our 13abc Rising Star: Laura Johns

Congratulations to our very own 8th grade math teacher, Laura Johns, for being recognized as a 13abc Rising Star! Her passion for teaching and inspiring young minds is contagious—she makes math engaging, meaningful, and fun for her students.

Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Johns gives her time to activities like Quiz Bowl and Builders Club, and she’s often found cheering on students at games, concerts, and community events. Her commitment shows students she cares not only about their academic growth, but about them as people.

Her colleagues, students, and families already know what an incredible educator she is, and we’re proud to see her celebrated for the impact she makes every day.

Bobcat Athletics in Action

Fall is in full swing, and our Bobcat athletes are showing dedication, teamwork, and school spirit across the field, court, and course. From Friday night lights to weekday matches, our students continue to make Bowling Green proud!

Earlier this week, some of our student-athlete leaders participated in the NLL Sportsmanship Conference, hosted by Leadership Toledo and BCSN Sports. Bobcat representatives connected with athletes across the league, explored what it means to be a positive leader, and gained insights into teamwork, responsibility, and sportsmanship.

Did you know the Bowling Green Bobcat Athletic Boosters have volunteer photographers who attend at least one game, match, or meet for each varsity sport? Thank you to the photographers who share their time and talents to provide high quality images for our student athletes and their families to download free of charge from the Booster's Facebook page! Here are just a few from recent athletic events. Go Bobcats!
