News from Bowling Green City Schools

August 8, 2025

Message from the Superintendent

Dear Members of the Bowling Green City Schools Community,

As summer draws to a close, the excitement of a new school year is in the air! The 2025–26 school year promises to be one of growth, connection, and opportunity for every student in Bowling Green City Schools, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back.

Next week marks several important milestones as we prepare for our students’ return. BGHS and BGMS will hold their registration days, and we will welcome our newest educators during New Teacher Orientation. These sessions are designed to ensure our staff has the tools, resources, and support they need to provide the highest quality education to our students. We are excited to begin our work with and immerse our young educators into our BGCS culture.

On Monday, August 18, all BGCS staff will come together for our Opening Day All-Staff meeting—a day filled with inspiration, motivation, and a sense of unity. District leaders, local officials, and educational partners will share their vision and encouragement for the year ahead. Teachers will engage in professional development and collaborative sessions that will help them create nurturing, dynamic, and engaging classrooms for all students.

The excitement will continue with each of our five school buildings hosting Open House events on Tuesday, August 19. These types of activities provide families the opportunity to meet teachers, tour classrooms, and start building those all-important school connections. Then, on Wednesday, August 20, we officially open our doors for the first day of school!

I want to extend a thank-you to our maintenance and custodial staff. Their hard work over the summer cleaning classrooms, repairing facilities, and ensuring our buildings and grounds are in top condition makes it possible for our students and staff to begin the year in safe, welcoming, and well-prepared spaces.

We know the start of a new year is filled with both anticipation and questions. While all back-to-school information is posted on our website, we have also prepared a quick back to school reference guide to help you find important details quickly and easily.

In approximately two weeks, our newest community publication will be arriving in your mailboxes. We are excited to be distributing the 2025–26 District Calendars to all community stakeholders. These calendars are a valuable resource for important dates, events, and school-year reminders. We extend our sincere gratitude to our calendar sponsors: Newlove Realty, Bowling Green State University, and Wood County Hospital. The generosity of these community partners has made this new publication possible and we are excited to add this communication tool to the district’s overall community communication plan.

I am honored to serve the students, families, community, and staff of Bowling Green City Schools. I promise that our District will continue to work hard to improve each day to provide a high-quality education for our students, a financially sound organization for our stakeholders, and be a point of pride for the entire community.

Go Bobcats,

Dr. Ted Haselman

Superintendent

Updated BGMS & BGHS Traffic Flow and Drop-Off/Pick-Up Procedures

Please take a moment to review the updated BGMS and BGHS Traffic Flow Pattern. These changes are designed to improve safety for all students, staff, and visitors.

Your attention to these adjustments will help keep everyone safe and ensure traffic moves smoothly during arrival, dismissal, and events.

Please continue to follow the new traffic pattern on all days of the week and at all times. This traffic pattern is not just for drop off and pick up times. Please DO NOT drive from the Middle School or the stadium area toward the high school into oncoming one-way traffic. There are numerous “do not enter signs” and one-way traffic signs indicating this.

Important for ALL: The bus loop is for buses only. No student drop-off or pick-up is allowed in this area.

Thank you for your patience as we improve our campus.

BGHS Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up

All high school traffic should enter high school student entrance on Poe Rd. and exit on Fairview Ave. High school traffic should not enter the construction entrance on Poe Rd. or the Middle School entrance on Fairview as the blue high school route is ONE WAY traffic until you reach the stop signs near the wrestling building and athletic fields, where it becomes two-way traffic with the incoming BGMS orange traffic loop. Please follow the indicated route on this map.

Morning Arrival for All BGHS Students: BGHS students should enter the high school through the athletic entrance by the gyms — not the main office entrance.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Lane:

  • Families dropping off and picking up students in the drop-off and pick-up lane, please stay in the right lane until you pass the parking lot on your left and approach the Performing Arts Center, as vehicles entering and exiting the parking lot will be using the left lane.
  • Pull forward as far as possible before your student exits the vehicle.
  • To keep traffic flowing, students should exit anywhere along the drop-off/pick-up zone — they do not need to wait until reaching the athletic entrance.

BGHS Parking Lot Lane:

  • Staff, students, and visitors who are going to park in the parking lot should stay in the left lane upon entering the campus as families dropping off and picking up students will be in the right lane upon entering the campus. (See photos above).
  • When leaving the parking lot, please exit left. The route from the high school entrance toward the PAC and middle school is now ONE WAY. Please make sure to look to the right before exiting the parking lot to check for oncoming traffic.

BGHS Exit Route:

  • As you approach the middle school, families with both BGHS and BGMS students will be merging into the BGMS drop-off and pick-up loop to the right.
  • All other BGHS traffic should stay in the left lane to follow the blue exit route that will take you near the stadium.
  • Please note there are several new stop signs.
  • At the stop sign, high school traffic will turn left to go to Fairview.
  • At this point there will be two-way traffic with incoming BGMS families dropping off their students as well as BGMS staff coming into the parking lot.
  • There will be another new stop sign along the blue HS route just before the tennis courts where our BGMS families will be merging in with the exiting high school traffic. Both HS and MS traffic have stop signs at this point and will need to take turns to approach the exit at Fairview.
  • When you reach the exit at Fairview, there will be a new traffic light. All vehicles exiting the school grounds must turn left from 7 a.m.- 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Thank you for your patience as we improve our campus!

Families with BOTH BGHS & BGMS Students

  • Enter the BGHS entrance on Poe Rd. and drop off your high school student first.
  • Continue along the blue route toward the middle school.
  • You may merge into the BGMS drop-off/pick-up lane at the designated point on this map.

  • Once you are in the BGMS orange loop, continue to follow the orange loop route.
  • When you get to the drop-off and pick-up area, please pull forward as far as possible before your student exits the vehicle.
  • To keep traffic flowing, students should exit anywhere along the BGMS drop-off/pick-up area — they should not wait until reaching the BGMS entrance to exit the vehicle.
  • After your student has exited your vehicle, please continue to follow the orange route on the map through the parking lot until you reach the stop sign near the tennis courts. Exiting BGHS traffic will also have a stop sign at this point. You will need to take turns with the high school traffic as you turn right to get to the exit at Fairview.
  • When you reach the exit at Fairview, there will be a new traffic light. All vehicles exiting the school grounds must turn left from 7 a.m.- 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Thank you for your patience as we improve our campus!

BGMS Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up

  • BGMS families should enter and exit BGMS from Fairview.

  • Follow the orange BGMS drop-off and pick-up loop on this map.

  • Please DO NOT drive from the Middle School or the stadium area toward the high school into oncoming one-way traffic. There are numerous “do not enter signs” and one-way traffic signs indicating this.

  • Please note there is a new stop sign just past the Lubrizol Learning Lab and near the softball field. The exiting high school traffic also has a stop sign at this point and you will need to take turns with the exiting high school traffic.

  • After stopping, continue straight along the orange route and turn left at the new access road. (Here is an image of new BGMS access road being installed earlier this week. It will be completed before school starts).

  • Turn left again when you get to the middle school drop-off and pick-up area.
