Message from the Superintendent
Dear Members of the Bowling Green City Schools Community,
As we wrap up the last day of school and head into winter break, I want to take a moment to wish our staff, students, families, and the entire community a joyful, safe, and peaceful holiday season. This time of year can be busy and sometimes overwhelming, but it also offers a wonderful opportunity to pause, reflect, and cherish time with loved ones.
This year has been filled with many accomplishments that make our schools such special places to learn and thrive. Thank you for your support, hard work, and dedication—it truly makes a difference. As we look ahead to the New Year, I am excited for the opportunities that await and the continued success we’ll share. Wishing you a safe and restful winter break, and I look forward to seeing everyone in January! Happy holidays!
Go Bobcats,
Dr. Ted Haselman

Winter Break Inspiration: Ideas for Learning, Fun, and Relaxation | |
Winter break is the perfect time for students to recharge, explore new activities, and make lasting memories with family and friends. Here are some ideas to keep kids busy, entertained, and even learning while they're away from school:
Relax and Recharge
-
Rest and Self-Care: Encourage kids to take time to rest, unwind, and recharge. Relaxation now will help them return to school on January 7, 2025, refreshed and ready to learn.
Connect with Loved Ones
-
Quality Time with Family and Friends: Plan family meals, play games, or simply spend time together catching up.
-
Host a Board Game Night: Invite friends or family over for an evening of fun with classic board games.
Explore New Adventures
-
Visit the Library: Inspire a love of reading by picking up books for fun or exploring winter-themed stories.
-
Check out a Museum: Many local museums offer family-friendly exhibits and programs during winter break.
-
Go Ice Skating or Sledding: Make the most of winter weather with activities like ice skating, sledding, or even snowman-building.
-
Take a Nature Walk: Bundle up and explore local parks and trails for some fresh air and wildlife spotting.
-
Attend a Winter Camp: Look for short camps or workshops that focus on arts, sports, or STEM activities.
Get Creative
-
Make Winter-Themed Crafts: Try creating snowflake art, DIY ornaments, or other festive crafts together.
-
Try At-Home Science Experiments: Explore simple, fun experiments like making slime, growing crystals, or creating a baking soda volcano.
-
Journal and Set Goals: Encourage kids to reflect on the year and write down their goals for 2025.
Have Fun Indoors
-
Tackle a Large Puzzle Together: A great way to bond and keep everyone engaged during long winter days.
-
Family Movie Night: Cozy up with popcorn, hot cocoa, and a lineup of family-favorite films.
-
Bake Together: Try baking cookies, cupcakes, or bread to enjoy and share with others.
Engage with the Community
-
Volunteer: Get involved with a charity of your choice or help a neighbor shovel snow if it snows. Remember to keep track of student volunteering for the BGSF 25 Acts of Service and students who complete 25 Acts of Service will earn a free t-shirt and get entered into a drawing for a gaming system or an iPad for completing 25 Acts of Service by April 30, 2025.
-
Attend a Sporting Event: Support a local team and enjoy a family outing to a live game. Get tickets to Home BGHS and BGMS athletic events here.
For High School Seniors
-
Apply for Scholarships: Winter break is a great time to get a head start on applications for college scholarships (if you plan to attend) or other post-graduation opportunities.
Check out the BGCS Flyer Board for other opportunities.
Whether staying active outdoors, creating memories indoors, or simply taking time to relax, these ideas offer something for everyone to enjoy their time over winter break. Wishing all of our students and families a safe, joyful, and refreshing holiday season!
