Message from the Superintendent

Dear Members of the Bowling Green City Schools Community,

The year is already flying by, and I can hardly believe it is January 17! As we head into the second half of the month, we are filled with anticipation for the exciting things happening in our district. We continue to be grateful for the ongoing support of our students and staff by our community members, and we’re eager to share some important updates with you.

January is Ohio School Board Recognition month, and I would like to thank the outstanding individuals who serve on our school board. Their leadership and dedication have a profound impact on our district, and we are incredibly grateful for all the time and effort they put into ensuring our students receive the best education possible. Please join me in expressing gratitude to President Norm Geer, Vice President Ardy Gonyer, members Peggy Thompson, Ryan Myers, and Tracy Hovest. These individuals volunteer countless hours to make important decisions that benefit our students, staff, and community. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated group guiding our district forward!

We are excited to share that the district has recently been awarded a grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation for over $28,000 worth of new equipment! This grant will allow us to purchase floor scrubbers, which will be used to maintain our facilities to the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. This grant is just one example of how we, as a district, are constantly looking for ways to offset costs while ensuring we are good stewards of taxpayer dollars. The new equipment will not only enhance our ability to maintain our buildings but also help improve the overall experience for students, staff, and visitors.

The planning and design process for the new Bowling Green High School is continuing at full speed, even if you can’t yet see any construction on site. In fact, this month alone, we have 17 meetings scheduled related to the project! These include Core Team meetings with the architectural firm, engineering firm, and the construction firm, involving key district personnel along with numerous Focus Group meetings with high school teachers to ensure their input is considered in the planning. There has been a lot of collaboration already, and we appreciate all the time and effort so many individuals have put into making this project a success. We’ve also released the bid package for the geothermal well field, which is an important step in the construction process. We expect to see wells being drilled in the coming months as we move closer to breaking ground.

Speaking of the new high school groundbreaking, we’re excited to announce that we are looking to schedule an official ceremony in late spring, with construction beginning shortly thereafter. We’ll be sure to keep the community updated on the progress as we work toward creating a state-of-the-art educational facility for our high school students.

I am honored to serve the students, families, community, and staff of Bowling Green City Schools. I promise that our District will work hard to improve each day to provide a high-quality education for our students, a financially sound organization for our stakeholders, and be a point of pride for the entire community.

Go Bobcats,

Dr. Ted Haselman

Superintendent

DID YOU KNOW?

  • BGCS students completed 1856 college credit hours through the CCP program during the 2023-2024 school year!
  • There are 8 College Credit Plus classes offered right here at BGHS!

The College Credit Plus (CCP) information night for Bowling Green City Schools is on January 22. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program will start at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.

Any middle school or high school students who are currently in grades 6-11 and are interested in taking college courses during the 2025-2026 school year, must attend a College Credit Plus meeting with a parent/guardian each year. It is required even if your student has participated in CCP courses in the past and whether the CCP courses are offered at the high school, on a college campus, or online.

Ohio’s College Credit Plus can help college-ready students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. There is no cost for tuition, books or fees. For more information about Ohio's College Credit Plus Program, click here.

Imaginarium District Art Show

Did you know January is International Creativity Month? We're proud of the amazing artwork our students create every day and so happy to share the success of the recent Imaginarium District Art Show, a collaborative effort between Bowling Green City Schools, the Bowling Green Arts Council, and Coyote Beads!

This special K-12 art show centered around the inspiring theme of children’s stories, showcasing the talent and creativity of our students. From imaginative interpretations to skillful execution, the artwork reflected the dedication of both our students and their amazing art teachers at all levels across the district.

Thank you to:

  • The Bowling Green Arts Council and Robin Gerrow for their vision and partnership.
  • Gayle Walterbach, owner of Coyote Beads, for her support and enthusiasm.
  • All of our wonderful BGCS art teachers!

You can still view a selection of some of this fantastic artwork on display over the next few weeks at the Wood County District Public Library in the Children's section (Conneaut student art) and in the Teen Reading Room (high school student art).

We’re grateful for the teamwork and energy that made this event a success! Here are just a few of the photos from the reception:
