Message from the Superintendent

Dear Members of the Bowling Green City Schools Community,

It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome all of our students, families, and staff back for the 2025-2026 school year. We are off to a strong and promising start, and the energy across our schools has been truly uplifting. The excitement of a new year brings new opportunities for learning, growth, and connection, and I am confident that this will be a wonderful year for our Bobcat community.

This past Monday, we began the year with our annual All-Staff Opening Day meeting. The event was filled with motivation, collaboration, and a powerful sense of unity. We were treated to inspiring performances by our talented BGHS Orchestra Quintet, Marching Band, and Madrigals Choir, setting a positive and uplifting tone for the year ahead. We were also honored to be joined by local community and educational partners who offered words of encouragement and insight. Our staff engaged in meaningful professional development sessions, equipping them with tools and strategies to best support and inspire our students.

On Tuesday, we welcomed families into our buildings for open house events. It was heartwarming to see parents and guardians connecting with our educators, exploring classrooms, and laying the groundwork for strong home-school partnerships. These moments of engagement and collaboration are what truly make Bowling Green City Schools such a special place.

Wednesday marked the official return of students through a staggered start, and the excitement in our halls was contagious. Seeing our students back in classrooms eager to learn and reconnect was a powerful reminder of why we do this work. Their energy and enthusiasm fuel our commitment to excellence.

Here’s to a fantastic school year filled with meaningful experiences and opportunities, academic achievement, and strong community ties.

Go Bobcats,

Dr. Ted Haselman

Superintendent

With major construction set to ramp up, the new high school is on track to open in the fall of 2027.

BGCS Welcomes New Educators with Comprehensive Orientation Program

Bowling Green City Schools recently hosted its annual New Staff Orientation, designed to ensure that all incoming staff members feel welcomed, informed, and ready to begin the school year. The program provided tools for classroom and school success while also helping staff build meaningful connections with colleagues and the community.

New staff heard from the Bowling Green Education Association and district leaders in student services, technology, communications, operations, HR, and finance. They also participated in sessions focused on teaching and learning, the Resident Educator Program, and began engaging in professional development activities. A bus tour gave staff the chance to explore district schools and facilities, followed by a visit to the Wood County District Public Library to learn about available resources.

The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce hosted a luncheon, where speakers included Mayor Mike Aspacher, Chamber members, and a 2024-2025 Kiwanis Inspirational Teacher, Michelle Thomas. Staff also attended a Partner Resource Fair, where community organizations shared ways they can support educators in their work.

The orientation concluded with principal-led meetings at each school building, giving staff time to get acquainted with their new environments and prepare their classrooms for the upcoming school year.

Bowling Green City Schools is proud to welcome these new staff members and looks forward to the positive impact they will have on students and the community.

From our Alumni: BGHS Class of 1970

The Bowling Green High School Class of 1970 came together for a memorable reunion over the weekend of August 8–9, 2025, at the Bowling Green Country Club.

Friday night kicked off with thirty-eight classmates gathering to catch up and celebrate the birthday of Maridy Roper. By Saturday evening, the crowd had grown to fifty-three, with laughter and conversation filling the room. Over forty former classmates shared stories, old memories, and plenty of smiles.

High school tales flowed freely. With most of the class now retired, it was fascinating to hear how everyone spends their days. Some have embraced woodworking, painting, or needlepoint, while others remain active in Girl Scouts or other organizations, keeping busy and engaged in meaningful ways.

The reunion was also a time to remember those who are no longer with them. The sixty classmates who had passed away were fondly recalled.

The event was chaired by Judy Milligan Myerholtz, with invaluable help from Art Myerholtz, Cathy Horger Nutter, Jane Bishop Shively, Kathy Esdale Newlove, Jan Wood Peterson, and Pat McGiffin Wilhelm.

As old friends reconnected, the weekend became a heartwarming reminder of shared history, enduring friendships, and the passage of time.
