The Voice
July 2016
From the Executive Director

At the Brisben Center, we provide the highest level of care to our clients. As a non-profit, our ability to deliver that high-quality care and service to those in greatest need in our community depends on available resources.

This summer we have three ways for you to help support Brisben.

I am excited to announce a planned match drive during the month of July. Your donation will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $5,000!

We are also partnering with our local Sonic Drive-in restaurants to hold a Brisben Night on July 13 at all three local Sonics. A percentage of the evenings proceeds will go directly to the Center!

AND, we have made it easier for you create your legacy with a Planned Gift to the Center. A Planned Gift to Brisben will benefit you, your loved ones and the fight against homelessness. A thoughtful planned gift enables charitable donations at a level that you might not have thought possible while maximizing tax benefits for you and your family.

Read on for more details on all of these events and resources!

On behalf of our entire staff
thank you for all that you do and  have a safe and happy summer!
Volunteer Spotlight

Bridges to Books is a volunteer initiative by University of Mary Washington students to read weekly to Brisben's children. Student volunteers come in each Monday evening. Thank you the Bridges to Books leaders, Charity Stayer, Alan Overby and Allison Maloney, and to all the students who serve!

Volunteer drivers needed. Do you have an SUV or pick-up truck? If you do and are willing to help Brisben, w e need help on some Saturdays from noon to 3pm to pick up surplus produce donated by the vendors of the Farmer's Market at Route 3 and Gordon Rd. This could be a great family project. If you can help, please send an email to Don Perusi at [email protected]

Meet a Staff Member: Renee

Renee is Brisben's Family Case Manager. She works tirelessly to make sure Brisben's families and children get the best possible second chance at regaining their independence.

The Giving Spirit

Nine-year-old Amelia celebrated her birthday this year by asking her guests to bring donations to Brisben in lieu of presents for her. The caped assistant is her little brother, who helped her deliver the gifts!

Brisben Perspectives: Meet Addist

This is Addist. He is a former Brisben resident, who
shares his story and perspective on homelessness and connecting with Brisben for his second chance. He now gives back to those in need.

Watch our video of Addist's story.
Planned Giving: Ensure Your Legacy

A planned gift to the Center, such as a simple bequest in a will or trust, helps ensure that the Center and its volunteers can continue serving our community's homeless for many more decades.
