STAY CURRENT: MAY
Thank you for supporting your neighborhood schools through the successful passage of the 2017 Clear Creek ISD Bond Program. On May 6, the community overwhelmingly authorized $487 million to build new or rebuild schools, replace portables with permanent additions, renovate aging schools to bring them up to today's learning standards, improve school and bus safety through the purchase of surveillance equipment and buses, and expand opportunities for students to explore science and the arts. Every corner of this school district will be positively impacted by your vote.

We will do this work in Clear Creek ISD fashion and involve the community every step of the way from transparent and competitive bidding on projects to phasing projects to minimize disruption of school and neighborhood activities. We will work tirelessly to maintain the public's trust through conservative financing practices and cost-saving measures as we have done in years past.

A look into the immediate future, we will move expeditiously on building Elementary #27 to relieve significant overcrowding due to the volume of families calling Clear Creek ISD home. We will begin the rebuild of League City Elementary and major renovations to Clear Lake City Elementary and Armand Bayou Elementary. We will start plans to add onto Brookside Intermediate so that the 200 students we turn away from the Seabrook Science Magnet will have a second Science Magnet to attend. Brookside Intermediate along with Space Center Intermediate and League City Intermediate will see significant improvements in their respective fine arts areas to match the exceptional talent of the students the schools serve. We will add classrooms to Stewart Elementary and Clear Lake Intermediate. We will replace dangerous playgrounds with new places to play at many elementary schools. And this is all in year one of the five year bond program. My promise to you, our taxpayers, is that we will accomplish our bond goals.

If you voted in support of this bond, thank you! If you did not, we will work to earn your trust through our performance.

Greg Smith, Superintendent of Schools

PROFILES OF A CCISD GRADUATE
CLEAR BROOK HIGH SCHOOL

At only 18, Maddie Medina has already learned more than some people ever will in a lifetime.  She's learned that hard work is essential to success, regardless of how talented a person is, and that finding a healthy balance in life is the key to happiness, she said.  Those life lessons are what Maddie believes was key to her success as a dancer and now will lead her to be one of only 12 girls to study at The Juilliard Company next fall.

CLEAR CREEK HIGH SCHOOL

Diego Allison  has an incredible talent for designing and constructing clothes. This year he designed and constructed 13 prom dresses for students at Creek, Falls and Springs. He is hoping to continue his work with a line of clothing after college.

CLEAR FALLS HIGH SCHOOL

Gillian Glenn possesses what some would call a passion. She is a gifted and natural born educator. Her desire to minister to others, especially those with special needs, is as innate in her as breathing. She is an instinctive teacher, but if you ask Gillian about her passion, she definitely wouldn't mention teaching because she says she feels educating and leading is definitely a calling and something much larger than herself. Gillian will attend Baylor University and plans to teach special needs students when she graduates.

CLEAR HORIZONS EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL

Growing up in a single parent household, Vy Tran has never let anything slow her down. She will graduate number three in her class and has received a scholarship to Yale, which has some pretty tough competition considering she was also accepted to Harvard, New York University, University of Texas and Middlebury College. One of her biggest accomplishments in high school was hosting a health fair at McWhirter Elementary to help students and their families with health screenings.

CLEAR SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL

Travis Buckmaster has not only taken a full load of AP and dual credit courses and been greatly involved as an Eagle Scout, but he has helped save a life while on a hiking trip when one of his fellow scouts had a panic attack after scaling a larger rock. Putting his own fears aside, Travis made the decision to scale one of the most difficult rock formations to get to the stranded Scout. After, Travis stayed with his fellow scout and continued to climb at his pace providing physical and emotional support.

CLEAR VIEW HIGH SCHOOL

Hana Short was originally adopted from Ethiopia. She came to Clear View not speaking English very well.  She has since worked through all of that, speaks very well, graduated from the school's cosmetology program. She plans to become a flight attendant after graduation so she will have the opportunity to see more of the world.

CLEAR LAKE HIGH SCHOOL

Education hasn't always come easy for Matthew Churchman. Being the third son in a family that struggles with dyslexia, he often dreaded coming to class some days. He says everything changed though after his third grade teacher Mrs. Schwanke at North Pointe Elementary asked him to stay after and offered to work with him to improve his vocabulary and spelling. Being a part of the varsity water polo team has boosted his self-confidence and he's now a member of the Olympic Development Program. He will graduate from Lake with honors and is going on to Santa Clara University to study economics.

SUMMER MEALS
READYROSIE: FREE PARENT RESOURCE
It only takes 2 minutes a week to help prepare your child for academic success. And research shows, the earlier, the better!

Clear Creek ISD is pleased to announce ReadyRosie, the District's newest online resource, is now available for free to all parents, caregivers and educators who live within the district's 13 communities. The added resource will further enrich the District's early education efforts aimed to promote the long-term benefits of launching the learning process long before kindergarten.

What is ReadyRosie?

A parent is their child's first teacher. The ReadyRosie resource provides early education tips and insights to help adults teach the youngest learners, from age 0 to 5, new things through simple and easy strategies. These strategies lead to student success beginning in Pre-K and kindergarten, impacting the child's entire education journey. Research has proven that the experiences children encounter at an early age provide the basis for brain development and directly impact how their learning skills and social and emotional abilities will develop in later years.

ReadyRosie delivers weekly informative two-minute videos, interactive activities and early education insights right to the mobile device of the subscriber. The videos and activities are available in both Spanish and English.

CCISD ALUMNI & FRIENDS TOPGOLF TOURNAMENT
TEACHERS OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED
We would like to introduce our 2017 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year! Magali Gutierrez from Brookwood Elementary and Lauren Means from Bayside Intermediate were honored during a special luncheon and awards ceremony hosted by the Rotary Clubs of League City, Seabrook and Space Center for the 44 teachers who were named teacher of the year at the campus level. The event also featured some outstanding musicians from Parr Elementary who performed numbers from their school musical, Beauty and the Beast. We wish Magali and Lauren good luck as they move on to the regional, and hopefully state, selection process for Texas Teacher of the Year!

ASSISTING CCISD
For 29 years, Assistance League of the Bay Area has helped to provide clothing for economically disadvantaged students all across Clear Creek ISD.  During the 2016-17 school year alone, the nonprofit organization donated new clothing to more than 884 students within the district. Each student is provided with essentially a week's worth of clothing, which includes clothes, a hygiene kit containing toothpaste, a toothbrush, shampoo, soap and deodorant along with a voucher for shoes.  Recently, Assistance League of the Bay Area also donated over $18,000 in new clothing to Clear Creek ISD. This is out of their remaining inventory of clothing that was purchased in bulk. CCISD appreciates partnerships like these which benefit the lives of our students!
SENIOR-TO-SENIOR PROM
CCISD Gold Card Members were invited to mosey on over to Clear View High School recently for the 8th annual Senior-to-Senior Square Dance. Graduating seniors from the "Magnificent Seven" CCISD high schools volunteered their time to thank the senior citizens of our community for their continued support. The 2017 celebration featured a king and queen coronation, a best dressed contest, and a night full of line dancing. Thank you to the Class of 2017 volunteers for making the event a success. An evening like this would also not be possible without support from our generous community. Many thanks to the 2017 Royalty Sponsors: Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services, Brookdale Senior Living Solutions Clear Lake, and Brockway Realty.
