MI/MCI ("Kathon") Preservative Update
|
For those members interested in the MI/MCI ("Kathon") preservative file,
this update may be of critical importance to you.
The CCTFA is pleased to report that following a series of interventions with the Deputy Minster, Health Canada is now prepared to accommodate a more reasonable transition period for the elimination of MI/MCI in leave-on products. As proposed by the CCTFA, Health Canada is prepared to enter into a separate "compliance agreement" with individual companies who have concerns with the current implementation process. Recall, this process imposes an immediate "stop distribution" order with a June 2016 sell-through deadline.
Proposed Solution
As discussed between the Deputy Minister and CCTFA President Darren Praznik, the "compliance agreement" will provide for continued distribution of existing product to June with an extended sell-through period to December 2016. (These agreements will NOT be available for products for children due to their different risk profile.) Given that there has been no public notice on implementation and that all enforcement action to date has been with individual companies, the individual "compliance agreement" approach provides the most practical approach to resolving this issue for all concerned.
Communication to Industry
The Deputy Minister indicated that Health Canada is planning to issue a general notice with further details including the appropriate contact for companies to reach out to if they need to seek a compliance agreement. Health Canada will also be replying directly to all companies who sent letters on this issue conveying this same general information.
The CCTFA will continue to work with Health Canada to advance this proposed solution and will continue to update the membership accordingly.

Luxury brands should double their investment dedicated to the online shopping experience, according to a study from international online fashion and luxury specialist ContactLab. The firm highlights that under-investing in this area could see brands lose customers.
The study, which analyzed the entire purchasing process of 29 luxury brands including four pure players, found that they only propose an optimal online customer experience in one out of two cases. Very few brands are fully exploiting their potential, the study found. Most luxury brands do not yet use luxurious packaging similar to that used in-store, for example. In general, multi-brand pure players performed better than online designer boutiques.
50% of brands personalize customer relations by mentioning the new customer's name and gender in the welcome email. Only six brands use email links to their e-boutique.
