NEW! Trade Data Available Through CLTT
Import-export trade data is now available through USM's CLTT.  The trade data is collected from the documents of import-export transactions filed with customs authorities and trade ministries, such as Automated Manifest System (AMS), Customs Declarations, Import-Export Customs Statistics, etc. Datamyne's flagship product is data on the waterborne trade between the U.S. and its 240 distinct geographic markets. Sourced from maritime bills of lading, this data covers the details of transactions including cargo descriptions, ports of departure and arrival, and shipping lines, as well as the names of importing companies and foreign suppliers, which are linked to D&B background information.

With the assistance of Datamyne, CLTT can provide better consulting and researching services including:
  • Identify and quality potential trading partners and prospective customers
  • Uncover opportunities to sell your products or services
  • Track your own and competitors' shipments
  • Locate alternate sources of supply
  • Analyze and manage supply chain risks
  • Gain competitive intelligence
  • For local governments & NGOs: Focus and optimize FDI promotion and economic development initiatives

U.S. - China Trade War May Hurt U.S. Companies Most

Retrieved from Supply Chain 247

A number of analysts are warning that a trade war between the world's two largest economies could do more harm to U.S. companies than Chinese companies, according to an analysis by Bloomberg. Many more companies in the MSCI U.S. index for example, depend on China for at least 10 percent of their sales compared to Chinese companies that depend on the U.S. for the same amount of business, according to Morgan Stanley market strategist Jonathan Garner.
U.S. firms with the largest percentage of sales coming from China, and thus most likely to suffer from a trade war, are Ambarella Inc., Texas Instruments Inc., Marvell Technology Group, Genco Shipping & Trading Ltd., and Diana Shipping Inc., as indicated by the Bloomberg chart below.

The United States as the biggest economy in the world has traditionally been at the center of global trade flows. China has taken the front seat as the most traded with partner. Most of the total worth of trade stems from imports. With Canada, the second most important trade partner, trade flows are more balanced.
