The commissioners visited elementary classrooms to promote agricultural education in support of Maryland Ag Literacy Week (March 18-22, 2024).

They've enjoyed reading Farm Boots by Lisl H. Detlefsen, a delightful tale about Emma, an adventurous girl who explores the farm in her trusty boots while learning valuable lessons about diligence and the beauty of nature. Maryland Ag Literacy Week celebrates the importance of agricultural education in schools and communities, highlighting the vital role agriculture plays in our daily lives.

Beginning April 1, 2024, unpermitted signs will be removed by the Department of Public Works staff. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the safety and aesthetics of our community by eliminating unpermitted signage that may obstruct views at intersections and contribute to excessive clutter along our roadways.

Signs will be stored for two weeks at the Appeal Landfill located at 401 Sweetwater Road in Lusby, and may be retrieved for a fee of $6 per sign.

Public comments on the fiscal year (FY) 2025 staff recommended operating and capital improvement budget are being accepted through April 19. The FY 2025 Staff Recommended Budget is available for public viewing at www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/FY25.

Watch the March 19 public hearing on YouTube.

Submit comments to dawn.wood@calvertcountymd.gov.

The Department of Public Safety wants to know your questions about 911 dispatcher jobs. Ask a dispatcher anything about their job, and get answers at the new Dispatcher Q&A board.

If something is holding you back from applying to be a 911 dispatcher, we’d love to hear why! Share your potential barriers to applying.

The eighth annual Duck Race to support Therapeutic Recreation (TR) made a splash on Saturday, March 23! Proceeds from the event provide financial assistance for individuals with special needs to participate in TR programs, including summer camps. Thank you to all who sponsored a duck and those who came out to cheer at the Hall Aquatic Center.

Check out the livestream recording and learn more about Therapeutic Recreation services.
