Last week, the Calvert County Department of Public Safety, Division of Animal Control, issued an animal safety alert due to high temperatures. As a reminder, animal owners or custodians are required to provide proper pet protections while alerts are active. In addition, animals must be provided with shelter, water, space and access to shade.

To report concerns, citizens may contact the Animal Control Division at 410-535-1600, ext. 2526, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If the office is closed, reports may be made to the non-emergency line at 410-535-3491.
The Calvert County Health Department reminds citizens that it’s tick season and to perform daily checks after being outdoors. Ticks must usually be attached for at least a day before they can transmit the bacteria that causes Lyme disease; early removal can reduce the risk of infection. After 24-36 hours, it is recommended citizens contact their primary care physician for treatment to avoid contracting Lyme disease.

For more information on Lyme disease symptoms and treatments, visit the Calvert County Health Department Website.
