The BOCC established a new Veterans Affairs Commission (VAC) to help guide initiatives, programs and policies that impact Calvert County veterans.

The BOCC unanimously approved establishment of the VAC during their Tuesday, March 23, 2021 regular meeting. Formation of the VAC is part of the board’s continuing effort to ensure that positive and impactful support and services are available for Calvert County veterans.
November is Native American Heritage Month. To celebrate, check out local parks with rich history that are currently open to the public for walking and enjoying the outdoors.

One in particular is Biscoe Gray Heritage Park in Prince Frederick. A few years ago, a large pile of oyster shells was discovered there. Indications are that it was from Native Americans eating oysters every day and tossing the shells in this pile hundreds of years ago.
The Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter is working hard to clear the shelter and find loving homes for all of the animals who have entered their doors.

For the month of November, adoption fees for cats and guinea pigs will be waived for qualified adopters.

If you're looking for a cat, dog or guinea pig companion, consider giving them a call at 410-535-7387 or stopping by in person!
Today is America Recycles Day. Did you know that in 2020, Calvert County recycled over 2,000 tons of paper, which is enough paper to fill eight and a half Olympic-sized swimming pools? By recycling, we can save landfill capacity, conserve natural resources and grow our recycling rate.

Pledge today to reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle in every aspect of your life. Visit online for more information and recycling resources.
The Department of Parks & Recreation announces that free Wi-Fi is now available at Mt. Hope, Harriet E. Brown, Northeast and Southern community centers.

Given the impact of telework and other connectivity
concerns, the BOCC prioritized access for citizens who may not have internet access at home.
