Citizens who wish to provide public comment are invited to attend public meetings or can provide comment by dialing in by phone at the published time. To provide dial-in comment, call toll-free 888-475-4499 or 877-853-5257 and enter the Meeting ID 899 4188 8251 and passcode #. Callers will be provided further instruction during the meeting on how to indicate you wish to speak.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Join us for a domestic violence awareness candlelight vigil honoring victims and survivors of domestic abuse. This event will take place on Oct. 24, 2022 (rain date Oct. 27) at 6 p.m. at the Calvert County Courthouse, 175 Main Street in Prince Frederick.

 

If you or someone you know is in a domestic violence situation at home or in the workplace, please call the 24/7 hotline at

1-877-467-5628 for help.

 

The Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation advises citizens that the Mt. Hope Community Center will temporarily close Monday, Oct. 24 through Friday, Oct. 28, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily due to construction on the communications tower. The community center will reopen from 5-9 p.m. each evening during the work period.


Normal hours of operation will resume Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022. Mt. Hope Community Center is located at 104 Pushaw Station Road in Sunderland.

We need your help! In preparation for Hurricane Ian, the Calvert County Department of Public Works provided sandbags at the Appeal, Barstow and Mt. Hope Convenience Centers between Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 2022.


Citizens were given the opportunity to fill up to 20 sandbags to help protect their property from the incoming storm. If you picked up sandbags, we would like your feedback to ensure we are meeting the needs of the community.

The Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter is offering reduced adoption fees now through Nov. 23, 2022. 


Regular adoption qualifications and procedures still apply. Adoption fees cover services that include age-appropriate vaccinations, spay or neuter, microchipping, heartworm testing for dogs and feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus testing for cats. Adoption fees are reduced by 50% until Nov. 23:


The Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter is located at 5055 Hallowing Point Road, in Prince Frederick. Shelter hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.


The Maryland State Board of Elections has begun sending mail-in ballots to voters who have requested to vote by mail in the general election.


Individuals who wish to vote by mail must submit a mail-in ballot request form before Nov. 1, 2022.


Early voting will take place from Thursday, Oct. 27 through Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022.


Residents may vote at any early voting center and are encouraged to check the online wait-time dashboard for the approximate voter wait time at each location.
