 CARDINAL CHRONICLES

Fall 2016

Message from the President

As the end of the year approaches and we turn our thoughts toward the upcoming holidays, I want to take a moment to look back rather than forward just yet.

As I look back over the year so far, I am delighted by our Farrah-Staff Photos accomplishments. As a company we met and, in some cases, exceeded our commitments to our clients. We enabled our Boards to meet their fiscal responsibilities to their communities. We held free classes for Board members and homeowners to learn from industry experts. We guided Associations through collections processes, legal issues, construction projects, and much more.

But that's business as usual for us. And, while I am delighted with all our business-related accomplishments, I am also proud of us for continuing to exceed our self-imposed obligations to humanity.

In conjunction with the Orange County Regional Chapter of Community Associations Institute, we helped to supply school children of Orange County with books, backpacks, and school supplies. We restored gently used books for kids not yet in school. We cleaned up beaches in Orange County. We collected and packed 3,300 pounds of food for the elderly and families in need. We collected gently used professional attire for men and women to wear to job interviews and to their resulting jobs. We supported the personal charities of our staff. And, with our business partners, we held fundraising events all year in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

LLS is near and dear to our hearts. Several staff members past and present have lost friends and family to blood cancers. And some of us currently have family members undergoing a variety of therapies to defeat their cancers. With the support of our clients and business partners, we held three fund-raising events this year to make our goal of giving $10,000 to fund treatments and research. I'm happy to report that we met our goal.

At Cardinal, we believe in much more than the bottom line. We believe in our Board members, our clients, our Associations, and our business partners. And we believe in "paying it forward" to those in need. I'm proud to represent Cardinal Property Management.

Cardinal Kicks Cancer in the Jeans!

In celebration of Lee National Denim Day and honoring national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Cardinal Team wore jeans to the office every Friday in October and donated to the American
Cancer Society (ACS). The team contributes money for the special privilege of wearing jeans to work on Fridays. Cardinal matches those funds and makes a donation to the ACS on behalf of all those fighting and in memory of those who fought.

Having Fun and Raising Funds

Ever mindful of the ravages of cancer and the devastation a diagnosis can bring, Cardinal has a long history of raising funds for research and an eventual cure. We have lost family and staff members to this terrible disease, and some of us are bravely fighting right now. This year, we held three events to exceed our fund-raising goal of $10,000 to donate to our local branch of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Spring Break Bash

Teaming with our business partners in May, we threw a Spring Break Beach Stroll and Rock & Roll Party. Antis Roofing generously donated their warehouse space for our bash. "Eastside Groove" provided live music to limbo, hula hoop, and dance to. The band has lost a member to leukemia, and plays in his memory.

Under the Big Top

In early September, we partied and raised money "Under the Cardinal Big Top." Through the generous donations of our vendors and business partners, we held a silent auction and played bingo, and prizes were awarded for the best circus costumes.

Light the Night

Our fund-raising efforts always culminate in the annual Light the Night Walk at Angel's Stadium. The national Light the Night Walk raises money across the country to fund treatments that are saving lives. LLS provides patient support services, advocacy for lifesaving treatments, and research for cures. Friends, families, coworkers, and business partners formed our Cardinal team and we raised donations for months before the walk around and through the famous Angel's Stadium. Champions for Cures carry illuminated balloons, white for cancer survivors, red for supporters, and gold in memory of loved ones who have died as a result of cancer. Thousands walk to bring light to the dark world of cancer. Cardinal is proud to support LLS in its life-saving work.

Cardinal's Champions for a Cause

Cardinal's Champion for a Cause (CCC) is an internal Cardinal program that allows employees and the company to team up to donate money to the employees' favorite charitable organizations throughout the year. Employees who participate in Casual Friday dress day each week donate a small sum of money to do so. Cardinal matches the collected funds, and a participating employee's name is randomly chosen during a staff meeting. That employee selects the charity to receive the donation.

Account Manager April Dana's name was recently selected at a staff meeting as Cardinal's Champion for a Cause. April directed her donation to the Fisher House Foundation. Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans' families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. "I belong to a Fisher House group so I see first-hand what our soldiers and their families need in terms of support while their loved ones are deployed and after they come home. I'm also an Army mom. My son Matthew serves our country." If you would like to find out more about Fisher House or make a donation, please visit www.fisherhouse.org.

Abel Gomez, Administrative Support and Production, was selected as our most recent Cardinal Champion for a Cause. Abel is directing his donation to Equine Advocates, an organization whose mission is to rescue, protect, and prevent the abuse of horses through education, investigation, rescue operations, the dissemination of information to the public, and the operation of a horse sanctuary. A horse trainer in his spare time, Abel owns three horses-a mustang, an appaloosa, and a quarter horse-all of which he rescued.
