August Book Study
Monday, August 3; 7:30–8:45 p.m.

We'll gather on Zoom on Monday nights in August from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. to discuss the 1949 book, Jesus and the Disinherited, by African-American theologian and civil rights leader Howard Thurman. In the book, Thurman interprets the life of Jesus as an experience of a marginalized and oppressed person examining nonviolent responses to injustice and a greater spiritual vision that results in a reciprocal community. We will also be exploring many of his writings on spirituality and prayer which are incredibly relevant and transformative.

For this first session, please read the forward; preface; and Chapter 1, Jesus: An Interpretation .

Join the Zoom gathering HERE. Learn more HERE.
Pennywise Thrift Shop
Open Tuesday–Saturday
10–2 p.m.

Pennywise Thrift Shop reopened on July 28 to people standing outside waiting for the opening! Sales were brisk and former customers said it was great to see the shop back in business. If you are venturing out, we invite parishioners to stop in and take a look. We meet many parishioners who have never stepped in the shop, and we think people will be surprised at the quality of the items for sale. Surprises include designer purses, top quality clothes, fine jewelry, and much more. Help support this mission in it's vital work for the community and church.

We're now open every week, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations are accepted during business hours only. Follow the link HERE to see what we will and will not be accepting.
Please consider volunteering for 2 hours a month, 2 hours a week, or anything in between. Please contact Helen Mertz or Mary Coulombe to find out more.

Faith in the Time of Corona - Children's Corner

The planning committee for the daily Faith in the Time of Corona (FITOC) reflections would like to devote one day a week (or even an entire week) to children's art during the time of the pandemic. Parents—please photograph your child's artistic expression in any form (from finger painting to sidewalk art) and send the pictures Brynn Pacitti. Please include your child's name. Backpack Tags and Stickers for the
2020–21 School Year Have Arrived!

They are available earlier this year so those leaving town soon for college can take one with them. The theme this year is "Peace Be Upon You." This universal message is used around the world by many different cultures and religions. In Hebrew, it's Shalom aleichem and in Arabic, it's As-salamu alaykum. The tags, stickers and special prayer cards have been blessed and are available for pick up 24/7 on the table just inside the door on the lower level near the church office.

Spiritual Direction/
Spiritual Companionship

During this uncommon and unsettling Easter season, we’re looking to find our way with the disciples as they faced their uncertainty. We find ourselves with them on the road with the Risen Lord trying to make sense of all that is happening. We’re seeking to find ways to pay attention, to be still, to live into the paradox of “Showing Up and Letting Go.” One spiritual practice for navigating our journey is spiritual direction. The Rev. Kathy Guin will be offering times on Tuesdays for meeting together by phone, Facetime, or Zoom, please contact her at to learn more and for setting up an appointment.
Grace Space
Tuesdays, 7–8:30 p.m.

As this new reality continues to unfold, we are alone and yet together in the aloneness. You are invited to join me in a small group of “Grace Space” for support—and to be seen and heard. If you have ever wondered what Gestalt Pastoral Care is, come and find out. Grace Space times are available Tuesday evenings, 7–8:30 p.m. Please contact Alexandra MacCracken to be included—first come, first served.
Free Virtual Reiki Relaxation Sessions

Reiki is a form of energy/spiritual healing that involves the transfer of universal (in this case God's) energy from the practitioner’s palms to their participant. Many hospitals offer it to calm patients, reduce stress, and help with healing both mentally and physically. While these sessions are normally done in person, they can be done remotely. The Reiki Master visualizes the person at the designated time and sends the energy to them with the intent of healing and relaxation. Patti Boerger, a Reiki Master practitioner for Holy Comforter's Center for Wellness and Spirituality, is offering free 20-30-minute sessions. Email Patti Boerger to schedule a time.  Learn more.
