The Holy Comforter Challenge

Dear Friends,

On Saturday, June 30, I announced the Holy Comforter Challenge! Our budget has felt the effect of our recent transition -- specifically a $250,000 shortfall, as compared to prior years. To be clear, this is our operating budget which includes staff salaries, paying the utilities, and our outreach ministries. If each parish family gave $200 we could meet this challenge and we would not need to scale back our ministry. The challenge has begun. Please click HERE to make your donation today.

Yours in Christ,
Jon Strand

Youth Pool Party July 2018
It was a wonderful way to celebrate the beginning of summer and another successful Hogwarts VBS week. Several prefects who are not members of Holy Comforter joined our youth to enjoy James Abbot's beautiful shaded pool and garden. Around 25 youth and a dozen adults had pizza, salad, and ice cream on this fun fellowship afternoon. Thank you to all who brought food and especially to James and Daniel for sharing their home. Enjoy more pictures HERE.

Pennywise Thrift Shop
Like Pennywise on Facebook!
Find us on Craigslist too!
The Pennywise Thrift Shop in Vienna is a treasure trove of clothes, household items, jewelry, hats, books, and much more at unbelievably reasonable prices! Pennywise was created as a fundraising endeavor in 1961 and is STILL going strong. Revenues from the shop fund a variety of ministries and activities within our parish as well as numerous community charitable programs and services.

Summertime is a particularly busy time and the need for volunteers is great.
Volunteers do ALL of the work at the shop, and we always need volunteers. Shifts vary by type of work:
  • Desk/cashier: usually work a two-hour shift, which can be once a month or more depending on your availability.
  • Sorters: Volunteers sort all donations.  Shifts can be worked out with the day chairs.
  • Pricers: Volunteers price items that are chosen for the shop according to preset guidelines. Shifts are variable.
  • Stocking racks and shelves is done while pricing and sorting to keep everything moving.
  • Porch Patrol: Volunteers sign up for one or more week shifts during a year and move donations from the porch afterhours into the shop.
Volunteers also get to work with great people and serve a very important part of our community. There are many opportunities available and schedules can be accommodated.  Please consider volunteering. Interested? Please contact Assistant Chair Mary Coulombe. Want more information?
