Efforts to Support Employees and Small Businesses Underway
The State of Illinois has announced it is working on economic assistance programs to support Illinois’ working families and businesses during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. Efforts are currently underway to provide resources and access to Illinois families for unemployment insurance, utility relief, food access, and Medicaid waivers. For more information, please visit coronavirus.illionis.gov .

The City continues to remain in daily communications with Governor Pritzker’s Office, Illinois Department of Public Health, and the Lake County Health Department.  The City also is in daily communication with State and Federal Officials, and we are working with them as relief plans for the public and for businesses are developed.

According to communications received today, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus is on the rise. Social distancing remains a critical step we can all take to reduce strains on healthcare providers as we try to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Today, the Lake County Health Department emphasized recommended steps that we can take to practice social distancing, including:

  • Stay home as much as possible
  • If attending a gathering, try to limit the number of people to 10
  • Call to check on family, neighbors, and older adults instead of visiting in person
  • Check with your healthcare provider about tele-medicine or alternatives to in-patient care

The Lake Forest Fire Department asks that residents only call 9-1-1 with true medical emergencies. If only experiencing mild symptoms, emergency responders ask that you please stay home. "Distance yourself from others in the household, if possible, by staying in a separate bedroom and bathroom, and contact your doctor if your symptoms worsen," says Dr. Sana Ahmed, Medical Epidemiologist at the Health Department. "We are prioritizing testing for symptomatic people who have high risk of complications - older adults living in congregate settings and those with chronic health conditions like heart disease, lung disease or diabetes, and those with weakened immune systems."

Beginning tomorrow, all Lake Forest park playgrounds will be closed via signage because they will not be sanitized on a regular basis due to the reduction of City staff and services. Also, Wildlife Discovery Center trails and exhibits are closed.

As a reminder, there is currently NO disruption of these public services including Police, Fire and Emergency Responders, Water, Sanitation , Garbage and Recycling.
