NEWS FROM

COMMUNITY RESOURCE SERVICES

JULY 2024

The Hooks for Hunger Fishing Tournament was a huge success again this year! Thanks to all those who participated, donated, volunteered, or sponsored this fantastic event. The generosity of the community helped to raise over $21,000 and 480 pounds of food for CRS! Since the first was held in 2013, Hooks for Hunger has raised over $250,000 to CRS! A very heartfelt thank you goes out to the Hooks for Hunger volunteer committee. Their tireless efforts to ensure the success of this event is greatly appreciated. Every detail was performed to perfection!

Weighing in LOTS of fish!

Thanks to our sponsors that go above and beyond!

Our fantastic volunteers, Bob and Megan Lewis!

Thanks to Jim and Emily Wenske for volunteering!

Some of the big winners!

Thanks to Mayor Spaetzel and Mayor Jensen for coming to our event!

Attention Gardeners!

If you ever find yourself with extra produce from your gardens, please consider donating it to the CRS food pantry! Our clients absolutely love to receive healthy, home-grown produce options.

If possible, please drop off your donations early in the week so that we can ensure they are distributed before the weekend. Thank you!

Homeruns for Hunger

Save the date for our annual Homeruns for Hunger event on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Support CRS while watch the Lake Erie Crushers take on the Schaumburg Boomers. Watch for more details soon!

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

On Friday, June 7th, the Lake Erie Crushers held their annual Star Wars promotional night where they auctioned off 33 game-worn Star Wars jerseys with all proceeds benefiting CRS! Thanks to everyone who supported the auction - we were presented with a check for $3,140! AND the Crushers beat the Trois-Rivieres Aigles in front of a sold out crowd!

A BIG THANK YOU to the Crushers for supporting CRS and the families of Avon and Avon Lake who are in need of financial assistance!

Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club

The wonderful ladies from the Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club were back to present an herb growing workshop! Our clients learned tips for growing herbs from seed and were sent home with everything they need to grow their own basil, dill and cilantro!

CRS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back? CRS is currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help at our front desk! As a front desk volunteer, you'll be the welcoming face of our organization. You'll answer phone calls, assist clients with pantry distributions, and other general tasks as needed, in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a commitment of one day per week, a 2 or 4 hour shift, between 10am and 2pm. If interested, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Amy Good at agood@aalcrs.org or 440-933-5639.

Looking for a Way to Support CRS?

Would your business or organization like to support CRS? Hosting a drive for the CRS food pantry is a great way to help!

We are always in need of staples like peanut butter, jelly, hearty soups, cereal, pasta, pasta sauce and canned chicken/tuna. Or you can get creative and collect specific items based on a theme such as snack foods, breakfast foods, toiletries or cleaning supplies. Another great idea is to have a spice drive. It is such a treat to offer our clients spices that they normally wouldn't be able to purchase for themselves.

If you would like more information about hosting a drive, please email our Pantry Manager, Cece Carlson or call her at 440-933-5639.

We are currently in need of snack foods, canned fruit, Velveeta Shells & Cheese, (or similar brand), side dishes, boxed pasta, canned pasta, hearty soups and toilet paper.

If you are able to donate it would be greatly appreciated. We accept donations during our regular business hours, Monday - Thursday, from 10am - 2pm. Just drive down the alley behind our office and ring the doorbell by the CRS sign. Thank you!!

*We cannot accept clothing, household items or medical supplies. Thank you!

CRS has been blessed this month with many donations of non-perishable items for our food pantry.Thank you to the following businesses and organizations:

Avenbury Lakes, Avon Garden Club, Avon Lake Giant Eagle, Avon Lions Club, Avon on the Lake Garden Club, Barry Bagels, Christ Church Westshore, Cleveland Clinic Nursing Institute, Freeman Mfg., Holy Spirit Church, Holy Trinity School, Hooks for Hunger, Hunger Network Food Rescue, New Westsiders, Normandy Elementary School and North Coast Rotary Club and Foundation.

We are so grateful for all of the donations that help keep our food pantry well stocked. Thank you for making a difference, right here at home!
