2024 Charity Ball News


Tickets are on sale now for the 35th Annual Charity Ball, A Community of Love, being held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at The Shipyards Event Center in Lorain. The Charity Ball is our biggest fundraiser of the year and features an open bar, hors d'oeurves, sit-down dinner, music, dancing, silent and live auctions, raffles and more!

Donate: We are currently collecting items for the auction including lottery tickets and gift cards to local retail stores and restaurants (also a great way to support local!)


Purchase a raffle ticket: We will be raffling off some amazing items including an exquisite pair of diamond stud earrings valued at $5,500 and an authentic Louis Vuitton Diane Bag valued at $2,230. Click here to purchase raffle tickets.


Participate in the Silent Auction: The silent auction will be going live on Monday, April 15th. More information will follow.

Our food pantry is in need of toilet paper! If you are able to make a donation, we would greatly appreciate it! We accept donations during our regular business hours: Monday - Friday from 10:00am - 2:00pm. Just drive down the alley behind our office, ring the doorbell by the CRS sign and someone will open the door. Thank you in advance for your consideration!

John T. Shook Community Service Award


Award Nominations Now Being Accepted

Deadline to Submit Nominations is March 15, 2024


The John T. Shook Community Service Award pays tribute to a very special friend and longtime CRS Board member who passed away in 2018. John touched the lives of many people in our community. He was dedicated to community service and he volunteered for many local organizations including CRS. In John’s memory, the CRS Board of Directors established an award in his name, to be given annually to an individual or group that embodies John’s commitment to volunteerism in our local community.


We are now accepting nominations for this award. If you know of an individual or organization that has been dedicated to volunteering for CRS or other organizations in our community, please complete this nomination form. Evaluation of the nominees will be conducted by a selection committee and the recipient will be announced at the Charity Ball on April 20, 2024.

Student Board of Directors Position Available


The Board of Directors of Community Resource Services will be seeking a high school student from Avon Lake High School to serve as the student representative to the board. The applicant should be a sophomore or junior entering the 2024-2025 academic school year. The position is for a two or three year term. Deadline to apply is May 1, 2024. We are so grateful for all of the donations that help keep our food pantry well stocked. Thank you for making a difference, right here at home!

Eclipse News


In anticipation and celebration of the total eclipse on April 8, 2024, CRS will be distributing free eclipse glasses to our clients and a bottle of Sunny D orange drink to our younger clients (while supplies last).


Please note: the CRS office will be closed on Monday, April 8, 2024.


VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: On Sunday, April 7th, the City of Avon Lake and Hermes Sports & Events, are sponsoring the "Eclipse Chasers 5K" race which will begin and end at the Beach Park Station, Stop 65. If you are interested in volunteering for the race, please email Erin Fach at EFach@avonlake.org for more information.
