Local Community Gardens Support CRS!

Each summer we are so fortunate to receive donations of fresh produce from many local gardeners. Our clients love and appreciate when we can offer these items to them!  Special thanks to Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club, Coleman Gardens and the Children's Garden at Avon Lake Public Library as well as all the individual gardeners who drop off donations of herbs, lettuce, beans, peppers, tomatoes and more all summer long!

Thursday Delivery Volunteers Needed

When we first received the stay at home orders due to COVID-19 we began delivering groceries to some of our families who were unable or uncomfortable leaving their homes.  We have continued this service for a small number of senior citizens who still find it difficult to come to our office to pick up their groceries. If you are able to help us with deliveries, or if you have any questions, please contact Amy at [email protected]   *We are only offering this service on Thursdays.
CHARITY BALL NEWS

The Charity Ball committee has begun the planning for a truly special virtual event. While we will miss gathering with you in person to celebrate CRS and all of the good things we do in our community, we need to make the health and safety of our guests, staff and volunteers our top priority.  So mark your calendar for Saturday, January 30, 2021 and watch for exciting details to follow!

Be a Santa to a Senior!

We are currently collecting donations for one of our very special programs.  Each year we assemble special items to make gift baskets to be distributed to our senior clients.

Here is a list of items that we like to include:
-Small denomination gift cards to local restaurants/establishments (Rio Cafe, McDonald's, DQ, Subway, Perkins, etc.)
-Special Toiletries (Lotions, soaps, shower gel, nail polish, etc.)
-Consumables (Chocolates, tea, crackers, jam, cookies, dried fruit)
-Miscellaneous (Note cards, stamps, playing cards, slippers, puzzles, blankets, scarves, kitchen towels, etc.)

Donations can be dropped off at the CRS office during regular business hours: Monday - Friday between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

If you have any questions please contact Peggy at [email protected].

THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving will be here before you know it and we're starting to make plans for our Holiday Food Basket Distribution.  If you would like to donate food items or host a food drive, here is list of some of the things we will be needing:
-Instant Mashed Potatoes
-Canned Cranberries
-Boxed Stuffing Mix
-Canned Sweet Potatoes
-Boxed Corn Bread
-Jars of Turkey Gravy
-Pie Filling and Pie Crust

Our volunteers will be in the pantry packing up the food baskets during the week of November 2nd so the deadline for donations is Friday, October 30th.  If you have any questions, please contact Kris at [email protected].

Our food pantry exists thanks to so many who generously donate.  We currently are in need of cleaning supplies, especially all-purpose cleaners. laundry detergent and Clorox wipes.

Thank you for your generous support in helping to keep our pantry stocked!

SOLENE BOUTIQUE HOSTS
SIP, SHOP & SUPPORT EVENT

Thanks to Solene Boutique for hosting this event in support of CRS.  Guests were treated to a private shopping event at their new location in the Olde Avon Village. The cost of admission was a gift card from a local establishment that will be used in the silent auction for the Charity Ball!

The Charity Ball committee will be hosting lots of these types of events in homes and businesses.  We will be encouraging guests to support locally owned establishments by purchasing gift cards to then be donated to CRS.  We believe these procurement parties are a great way to support the Charity Ball while also supporting our local businesses that may have struggled this year due to COVID-19. For more information about the Charity Ball or the procurement parties, please contact Sheila at [email protected].
Small Gesture Means So Much!

We received a special donation recently from a woman who wants to remain anonymous.  She told us that CRS helped her family a couple of times last year and that the gas card we gave her "saved her life". We helped her get through some tough times and now she wants to pay it forward by donating a gas card that we can give to someone just like her!

Meijer Simply Give Campaign
Dates Extended!

Meijer will once again be inviting their customers to join a combined effort to fight hunger by purchasing the $10 Simply Give donation cards through in-store displays located at each check-out register.  The campaign has been extended to Saturday, January 2, 2021.

Meijer's 2019 Simply Give Campaign resulted in a donation to CRS of $5,070 in food only gift cards that we used to purchase items for our food pantry! Meijer is a family company focused on enriching the lives in the communities they serve, especially during these challenging times. We are grateful for the support that we receive!

CRS has truly been blessed with many donations of non-perishable items for our food pantry.

Thank you to the following businesses and organizations:

Avon-Avon Lake Republican Club, Avon Girl Scout Leaders, Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club, Church of the Open Door, Coleman Gardens, Girl Scout Troop 50159 and Meals on Wheels

We are so very grateful for all of the donations! Thank you for making a difference, right here at home!
