July Volunteer Opportunities

UMass Chan employees have the opportunity of volunteering their time through the UMass Chan Cares volunteer initiative. Employees may use up to 16 hours of scheduled work time per year to support their favorite causes and institutions as volunteers. Those interested in volunteering may 1) volunteer individually, 2) seek assistance from the Office of Community and Government Relations (OCGR) to arrange a departmental volunteer effort, or 3) participate in one of the school-wide monthly volunteer activities organized by OCGR.

Community Harvest Project

Friday, July 12 - 9AM to Noon - tasks include planting, weeding, and harvesting

Location: 37 Wheeler Road, North Grafton MA


Because this event takes place during working hours, volunteer PTO is available.

New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill

Monday, July 29 - 9AM to 11AM - tasks include planting, weeding, spreading mulch, light pruning

Location: 11 French Drive, Boylston MA


Because this event takes place during working hours, volunteer PTO is available.

UMas Chan Joins ALL IN Democracy Challenge

UMass Chan is a member of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, which aims to promote informed participation in United States democracy among colleges and universities across the nation.


As the fall elections approach, members of the UMass Chan community are encouraged to become informed, engaged, and exercise their right to vote in every election, from the local school board to Congress to the Presidency. To register to vote, apply for absentee ballots or confirm your voter registration you may visit the Massachusetts Secretary of State's election website.

Area Legislators Celebrate New Education and Research Building

Several area state legislators joined Congressman Jim McGovern and Worcester Mayor Joe Petty and City Manager Eric Batista at the opening of the New Education and Research Building on June 7.

 

Senators Michael Moore (D-Milbury),

Robyn Kennedy (D-Worcester), along with Representatives Hannah Kane

(R-Shrewsbury) and John Mahoney (D-Worcester) presented Chancellor Collins with a resolution commending the Medical School on the opening of the New Education and Research Building.

UMass Chan in the Community - Canoe Point

UMass Chan employees recently partnered with the City of Worcester, led by Quality of Life Team to help beautify the area surrounding Coal Mine Road park on Plantation Street.


The clean-up project was

organized by the Office of Community and Government Relations as part of the Medical School's UMass Chan Cares volunteer initiative.
