Conch News

It was all hands on deck yesterday, the 1st August, with the approach of our first named storm heading our way for the season, Tropical Storm Bertha moving towards the islands. We spent our day strapping down all loose items both on boats and docks, wrapping up sails, cutting, coiling, and tying lots and lots of lines. Lots of teamwork, rehydration and sunscreen later, all boats were secured.

Having everything prepared and secured has allowed us to have some fun in the rain today... even us office girls were out on the docks!

Conch and the Community

We are no strangers to hurricanes and the devastation caused from 'Typhoon Haiyan', also known as 'Typhoon Yolanda', in the Philippines in 2013 was something that we could all relate to.

Their local fishing industry was all but wiped out in Haiyan's path. Conch Charters wanted to do our part and supply money to build a fishing boat in hopes that this would help in small way with all the work needed to get the community to bounce back.

We are so proud to have our name cruising around the waters in the Philippines.

49er Junior World Championships

Tortola's very own sailing dynamic duo, Alex Anderson and Christopher Brockbank, recently crossed the pond and headed to Denmark where they took on the challenge and competed in the 49er Junior World Championships. They finished in 11th place overall amongst 44 boats. Well done guys!

Conch Charters is a proud sponsor of this sailing duo and their quest to partake in the next Olympics representing the BVI.

 Testing Question
The BVI's have been battling with an unwelcome visitor that has made the reef their home. It is suspected that they multiplied after a breakage of a tank a few years ago during a Florida Hurricane. They do not belong in the Pacific Ocean and have made their way down the chain of islands via the Bahamas to us. Although there is no real predator for them here, nature is slowly adapting to this change. What is the name of this unwelcome visitor?
