YOUR DEACONS
The Deacons are serving the congregation in ways that answer needs that arise. Do you have an hour or more to give to your fellow member: visit a shut-in, take a meal, help an hour or more at a Covenant memorial service reception, sit with a person while a family member runs errands, or do an errand or drive someone to an appointment or to church. A little extra attention to someone shines a bright light on their day. If you know a member with a need, or for more information contact Carol Petro, 485-0994, jpetroball@ao,com.

OPEN  SHELTER
Did you know that on the second Friday of every month 10-12 volunteers assemble lunches for 275 people? Lunches are delivered downtown to the Open Shelter for distribution. Prep takes only about an hour and is a great way to participate in a mission activity while joining in fellowship with other Covenant members. There is no long-term commitment - just come when you can. Start a 8:30am in the church kitchen.
Upcoming dates for the fall are Oct. 11 and Nov. 8. Questions? Contact Carrie Mellen, 771-1396, dmellen@columbus.rr.com.

new tracy
Tracy Keenan

Dear Covenant friends and family,

Is the world crazier now more than ever?  Or is it better?  Does it matter, given that we tend to be people of habitual anxiety?  Psalm 37:1-9 offers some advice that makes a clear connection between anxiety and lack of trust.

What does it mean to trust God?

Are we supposed to be passive and just let things happen?

Or are we supposed to be courageous citizens of the realm of God, working for justice and peace?

How about both?

We hope to see you Sunday, when we will be introducing our new Director of Music, Cherie Brooks.  Please check the sidebar for information on Gathering and Forum.

Grace and peace,

Tracy

THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6  - World Communion Sunday

- 2013 Peacemaking Offering
Many of you have enjoyed the delicious food catered by Freedom a la Cart sponsored by Doma.  This year Covenant's portion of the Peacemaking offering is being donated to Freedom a la Cart. Judge Paul Herbert of Franklin County Municipal Court responded to the cry for justice after years of meeting women in court who were caught up in Human Trafficking. CATCH (Changing Actions to Change Habits) is an innovative, voluntary, two-year program to help women trapped in the sex trade. It uses a restorative-justice approach to helping them through support, encouragement, and accountability to wholeness and restoration. CATCH ladies move from victim to survivor through mentorship, life skills, and workforce development via Freedom a la Cart. Give generously to the Peacemaking offering and support these women on their paths to new lives.

- Between Services, sign up for the Deacons' Oct. 7 Blood Drive and the Oct. 13 CROP Walk.

- Youth Sub Sale - Giant subs for $10 are piled high with meat and cheese and easily feed a family of 4. They are freezable and can be cut into smaller portions for easy lunches. All proceeds support youth mission.

Tobit: A Book That Didn't Make the Cut
open Bible For Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christians, this book of the bible is in the canon, but not for Protestants. What this means about how we read the book can be discussed, but reading the book is something you don't want to miss. "Combining ethical exhortation with prayers and broad humor, a rollicking plot, and vivid characters, the book of Tobit is both entertaining and edifying." (Oxford Annotated Bible) We've got angels, demons, and difficult wedding nights to contend with here.
