“Research in Germany” Information Sessions at the European Career Fair in Boston on Sunday, February 7

The “Research in Germany” initiative will participate in the 20th annual European Career Fair at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston from February 6-8, 2016. It will offer a special information session with expert advisers and consultants from Germany covering graduate studies and opportunities for postdocs, young investigators and junior faculty in Germany. The session will start at 10 AM on Sunday, February 7, 2016 with an introduction highlighting new developments and job opportunities in Germany for all participants, who will then have the opportunity to meet experts at various round tables addressing topics like funding, career paths, professorships. It is the ideal place to discover new opportunities for your research career. Call for Short-Term Academic Staff at PAUWES – A Joint Project of DAAD, the Pan African University, GIZ and KfW


The Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES) in Tlemcen, Algeria is now accepting applications for short-term lecturer positions. In addition to teaching, the position holders will set and mark examinations and support the development and supervision of laboratories as required. In partnership with the Algerian and German government, the PAUWES Institute offers graduate students access to leading academic teaching, research and hands-on training in areas vital to the future of African development – water, energy and the challenge of climate change.

Since 2013, DAAD has counseled and supported PAUWES with the development of quality-assured recruitment and selection procedures for academic staff. The DAAD also supports collaboration between PAUWES and a consortium of German universities, including the University of Bonn, Cologne University of Applied Sciences, as well as The United Nations University.

Scholarships Available for UAS7 Study and Internship Opportunities in Germany – Deadline February 15, 2016

UAS7 (Seven German Universities of Applied Sciences) invites students who are currently enrolled in Canadian and U.S. colleges to apply for the UAS7 Study Program (SP), the UAS7 Study and Internship Program (SIP), or for the UAS7 Internship Program (IP). The deadline for these programs is February 15, 2016. Successful applicants for the Study & Internship Program (SIP), Internship Program (IP), and Study Program (SP) are eligible for a UAS7 Travel Scholarship of 1000 EUR to cover or defray transatlantic travel expenses for program participation. Applicants will be notified about program and scholarship acceptance simultaneously. No additional application materials are necessary; the program application is used by the selection committee to evaluate candidates for scholarships as well as program admission.

UAS7 is a strategic alliance of seven leading German Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) committed to excellence in teaching and research and close cooperation with German businesses and industries in Berlin, Bremen, Cologne, Hamburg, Munich, Münster and Osnabrück. Job Announcement: Office Administrator/Program Assistant at Heidelberg University Association (New York)

The Heidelberg University Association supports transatlantic academic co-operative endeavors, as well as close ties between Heidelberg and its Alumni in North America. It also engages Heidelberg Alumni in the U.S. through regional and national events, and newsletters. Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Office Administrator/Program Assistant will provide support to the general organizational operations of Heidelberg University in office administration (including accounting), executive assistance, and program work. Call for Proposals: Worldwide Partnerships with Erasmus+

Since January 2014, the EU’s seven-year, 14.7 billion euro Erasmus+ Program has provided funding for education and training staff, youth workers, and for partnerships between universities, colleges, schools, enterprises, and not-for-profit organizations. Through the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Program, universities and associations worldwide can submit proposals for European Union studies projects designed to promote excellence in teaching and research focused on the process of European integration.

The Jean Monnet Program supports these projects and professors, and key activities include courses, research, conferences, and publications in the EU studies field. The goal is to foster dialogue between the academic world and policymakers and in doing so, offer fresh perspectives that can enhance governance of EU policies.

Extended Deadline for Leipzig Summer Academy

Co-sponsored by DAAD and the German-American Fulbright Commission, the Summer Academy in Leipzig aims to offer professional development in areas relevant to the teaching of German including German language, literature and culture as well as in professional and higher education. The seminar will be conducted in German and is based at interDaF at Leipzig University’s Herder Institute. The deadline to apply for this program has been extended until January 25, 2016.
