DEL Delivers... Issue #1 January 2017

We're proud to announce  that DEL intends to expand and re-locate its flagship Ontario sales and manufacturing facility to a new location within the next 2 years.
Our decision to move is driven by the needs of our customers with due consideration for our valued employee team. By listening closely to our customers who need accessibility, our hope is that this move will put us in a position to be more successful.
It all boils down to acting on the feedback from our customers, planning for future growth, and meeting the needs of our customers and valued employees with a modern space to grow.
The new location ultimately chosen will fully support the growth plans of DEL in close proximity to its customer base. Although we have not found a location at this point in time, we currently expect to locate somewhere in or around the GTA 400-series highways in order to maximize accessibility for customers and employees. As DEL advances through the process, we will keep everyone informed so that you have up-to-date information and can share in our excitement for this planned move.
We look forward to working with our employees towards the future success of the DEL family as we celebrate over 70 years in business and continue to build for the future growth.

Salt/Sand Spreaders: Auger vs Chain

As a supplier and installer of salt/sand spreaders one of the questions we're often asked is what's the difference between auger driven spreaders vs. chain driven spreaders.  For those not familiar with the terms or snow & ice equipment, what is being referred to is the system that drives salt out of the hopper towards the discharge chute.  Here are some things to know.

 Auger System

  • Fewer moving parts = resulting in lower maintenance requirements
  • Better for handling dry, free flowing material = Material gets pulled evenly which results in a more consistent spreading pattern.

Chain System

  • Ability to spread a variety of material such as bulk salt, sand, pea gravel, moist materials etc.
  • Can carry more material to the discharge chute
  • Less prone to jamming

Which one is better?

It depends on the application required. As mentioned above the biggest advantage auger systems have over chain systems is that it has fewer moving parts and no chains to maintain. The trade off is the chain system has a higher flow rate when it comes to dispersing material at almost twice the rate of an equivalent hopper with an auger system. The other trade off is that chain driven systems can handle more variety of salt and material mixtures. So in short it depends on what you're spreading and how much of it.
