Winter Update 2018

 
  

Do not grow weary

Hello! As I write this, it is snowing outside - winter 2018 is not over. Sometimes in our lives winter seems to hang on, and we start to lose hope. Please don't; God is faithful. Let your roots go deep into the never-ending love of Our Father in heaven. This semester started out for us down in numbers and down in outward success, but the Kingdom of God is strong; Jesus Christ is its foundation, and His will can't be thwarted. Open our eyes Lord, purify our hearts, and give us wisdom and strength to proceed in and by Your Spirit. Amen!

God spoke to us early this semester of the importance of remaining faithful to what God has directed us to do. In January our numbers for our conversational English classes and Bible Studies were low; we found out that some of our annual trips had been canceled. Our plans were being pruned and our hearts were being tested. And then.......

A couple of weeks ago a young man, who is a practicing Muslim, was looking for a Bible Study at UAlbany. We are there every Wednesday evening. He was directed to our study and he told us that he wanted salvation; we were there for him. I was able 
to explain to him the way of eternal life. Last night he came back to Bible Study and was open to hear about Jesus Christ as being the Father's only Son and the only way to salvation.

Women who had attended our English classes and Bible studies last semester were at home with their new babies - Sue was able to visit them and instruct and encourage them in child rearing and God's enablement. 

We take several students to church with us most Sundays. Two weeks ago a seeker attended and I was able  to 
share the Gospel with him.

Two young ladies in one of our English classes expressed interest in learning about  the Bible -
this morning we offered a small weekly Bible Study after English class in Albany. 

Six of our believing students were shown three different ways to do a daily quiet time - all of them have been struggling in this area. 

Yibin and her family and friends cooked us a Chinese Dinner before returning back to China this month!

Sue is doing a weekly Bible Study with a young mom who can't get out in the evenings. 

We have been praying for and counseling a young married couple. 

A number of Chinese scholars and their children, who have just returned to China, came over to our home to cook a meal before leaving in order to say goodbye. The love of Christ was experienced by all in our conversation, our games, our cookie baking and in our wonderful home cooked Chinese meal. 

Inch by inch, foot by foot, meter by meter the Kingdom of God is going forth. Our job is to remain faithful - to serve Him wherever and whenever; He will supply the growth. Praise Jesus today and forever!

Working Together

God loves it when His Body works together as one; it is a foretaste of Heaven. This winter we served with Intervarsity at RPI to host a Spring Festival party for our Asian friends. It was a great night of fun, entertainment, food and games. Opportunities for spiritual conversations were present throughout the evening. Susan also provided a dinner for the presenters at Intervarsity's Veritas Forum. Faith and science were shown to be friends and not enemies - a great night for our scholars and students.

Sue and I were given the opportunity to share our ministry and the message on March 4 at our sending church - Grace Evangelical Free Church of Lake Katrine NY. It is always a joy to see our family and friends. I believe we were all encouraged and blessed by each other on that precious Sunday morning.

Sue and I also had the opportunity to attend The Full Sail Support Raising Leaders Conference from February 6-9, in preparation to assist as Ministry Coaches for new COM staff. The Support Raising Solutions ministry puts on this annual conference. Sue and I were inspired by the workshops and the presenters. Many ministries were represented by the teachers including CRU, Intervarsity, Navigators, Every Nation Ministries and a host of others. What a blessing to see the Body of Christ come together to learn and to share how to further the Kingdom of God.

Praise and Prayer Requests

Praise God for His faithfulness - He always guides us and enables us to do His will.

Praise God for His intimate involvement in our lives - drawing us closer to Himself through our marriage and in our daily walk.

Praise God for His kindness and compassion - we make so many mistakes and often sin, but His powerful, correcting and enabling love keeps us close to each other and to Him.

Please pray for our searching students and scholars - may they be supplied by us and the Body of Christ by the presence of the Holy Spirit with whatever they need to turn from self-reliance to Jesus reliance.

Please pray specifically for the following students: Jenny, Jeffrey, Hong, Yan, Yimeng, Yanzi, Emman, ShuChuan, Leo and Zayan - pray for their salvation

Please pray for our upcoming Easter activities - may they be full of God's love, joy and fruitfulness.

Please pray for our upcoming annual China Outreach Ministries staff conference and new staff training (April 21-30) in Pennsylvania - pray for safe travel, great fellowship, ministry enablement, and Godly encouragement.
