Join the movement to #UnderstandGrief

November is National Children's Grief Awareness Month

During National Children's Grief Awareness Month this November, we're raising awareness of how grief impacts children and families, and what we can do to support them. You can help by sharing messages to your social media, exploring events and activities, and learning more about the movement to #UnderstandGrief.

What is #UnderstandGrief?

#UnderstandGrief is a message of understanding and hope intended to help people who are grieving and those who wish to support them. The goal is to bring attention to these critical issues and to change “mainstream” misconceptions about grief and people who are grieving. Through the campaign, we are raising awareness about grief as a natural, normal, and healthy response to loss. #UnderstandGrief includes a call to action with 10 ways we can implement grief-informed knowledge. It also includes information and resources with social media images to download and share.

How can I get involved?

Help spread the word about what it means to #UnderstandGrief on your social media platforms. Download and share these posts to your Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. If you are an organization and would like to join #UnderstandGrief as a partner, send us an email at help@dougy.org.

Dougy Center remembers long-time supporter Gwyneth Gamble Booth

We are heart-broken to share the news of the death of Gwyneth Gamble Booth (pictured here with Executive Director Brennan Wood), whose three decades of Dougy Center service in numerous roles played a pivotal role in growing our services for children and families grieving a death.

Gwyneth was the Founder of our esteemed Advisory Board, served as our Board Chair, and was a Volunteer Group Facilitator for nearly 30 years in our grief support groups for families impacted by the suicide death or murder of a family member. Her warmth, intelligence, drive, and irrepressible compassion supported countless parents and their children, and her dedication to Dougy Center inspired many to volunteer their time and resources.

We will share more information when it is available on opportunities to honor Gwyneth’s life.
