DI DIgest
The weekly newsletter of Downtown Indiana
We've been working on the downtown flower baskets. Our small band of dedicated staff and volunteers planted and assembled the baskets (even in the dark!) The next step was to put the linings and flowers in the hay racks. We are done with the 900, 800, 700 blocks and the 600 block to Carpenter Avenue. We will finish up by the end of the week. Then we'll let the sunshine and rain (with some help from our water cart) do the rest!

This year, circumstances required us to reinvent the way we do the flower baskets. To make it work, we definitely had to rely more volunteer power and support from the communty. Thank you to everyone who helped by sponsoring a basket or lending a hand.
We couldn't have done it without you!

Annual Culture of Good
Backpack Giveaway
at Verizon

Our local Verizon Wireless Premium Retailer, located at 401 Phladelphia Street, will once again participate in the Culture of Good backpack giveaway on July 22 from 1 - 4 PM. To make the day even more special for the children who come to claim their backpacks, Verizon Wireless is looking for groups that would be willing to provide an activity, craft or face painting at the event. Verizon is also looking for food vendors who may want to take part.

The idea is to create an afternoon of family-oriented fun that can be enjoyed by local families. The event will take place in the Verizon parking lot and those interested can contact Downtown Indiana via email or call Amanda at Verizon (724-403-3985).

Details for the backpack giveaway and how a child can claim their backpack will be announced shortly.

Through a series of songs, scenes and monologues, they'll survive lonely nights and sleepovers, discover whether the Monster Under the Bed is real and maybe even get to answer that all-important question: "Is anybody out there?"
