Our Ten-Year

Anniversary Issue!

.

As I was putting this issue together, I realized it was issue #120, which means I've published this every month for the last ten years.

.

It actually goes back quite a bit farther than that, when I started The Afterlife Conference in 2009. At that time I sent out monthly promotional announcements before I was smart enough to start including educational content and news items, and eventually it evolved into a full-fledged newsletter.

.

So as we enter the new year, I want to thank the many friends and followers who have helped this work to thrive, with special thanks to those who have been with me since the beginning... Carol Yurick, Karol Avalon,Vicky Edgerly, Melena Landry, Robin Clark, Suzane Northrop, Austyn Wells, Linda Fitch, and many others (forgive me if I neglected to name you here).

.

Wishing all of you (and the whole planet) a productive, healthy and light-filled year to come!

.

NEWS AND EDUCATION

Update on NDE and OBE Research

Excellent in-depth interview with Dr. Bruce Greyson, one of our leading researchers on the survival of consciousness after death. His body of work includes more than 100 presentations to national and international scientific conferences, more than 150 publications in academic medical and psychological journals, 50 book chapters, and numerous research grants. He is a co-author After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal about Life and Beyond.

A Physician Changes Her Views

on Medical Aid in Dying

"I converted to becoming a staunch supporter of the current Massachusetts End of Life Option Act from my perspectives as a physician, a daughter, and, most importantly, as a human being, after witnessing both of my parents’ painful deaths, despite help from hospice and palliative care, and regardless of their prior explicitly expressed wishes to die peacefully." READ MORE...

How to Train Your Doctor

Fascinating interview with Dr. Matthew Tyler, a board certified physician in internal medicine and hospice & palliative medicine. He is the creator of How to Train Your Doctor, a coaching platform designed to help patients and caregivers make medical decisions related to serious illness and end of life. LISTEN HERE

End-of-Life Planning:

Don't Wait to De-Clutter Your Parents' House

(or Your Own)

Heather Aiello, founder of The Organized You, says you should declutter with your parents while they are still alive so you can hear the stories behindtheir treasures and belongings. "Once your parent is gone, you will no longer have the opportunity to ask, 'Why do we use this gravy boat every holiday?'" along with other stories behind the items, she says.

When Pickard's mother died, she didn't leave behind any directives about her funeral or provide any details about paying her bills or what to do with her belongings. As a result, the experience of settling her mother's estate was extremely stressful. To prevent that from happening with her father, she made sure to declutter with him while he was still able to tell the stories behind items found in his desk.

Physician-Assisted Death

in Canada

A lawsuit filed in the B.C. Supreme Court on Monday (June 17, 2024) describes how Sam O'Neill was diagnosed with Stage 4 cervical cancer in early 2022 at age 33. She was approved for MAiD about a year later, in February 2023, but had to be rushed to St. Paul's Hospital that March before she could come up with an end-of-life plan."

Which Religions

Fear Death the Most?

Notions of an afterlife are nearly universal, though there is diversity in the details. Given the close association between religion and death, researchers have long supposed that religion lessens fear about death. It stands to reason that religious believers should be less fearful of death than nonreligious individuals, or does it?
