Baoyun Ge Receives NSF CAREER Award to Explore High-Performance, Highly Sustainable Electric Machines Dr. Baoyun Ge has received an NSF CAREER Award for his project “Guided Exploration of Multiphysics Design Space for Electric Machines Using Tensorial Analysis (GEOMETRY).” The $550k project will help Dr. Ge explore the performance boundaries of electric machines in order to continue the fight against climate change and excessive carbon emissions. Florida Semiconductor Week Convenes Leaders to Strengthen and Expand Florida’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Ecosystem The urgency to fortify and expand Florida's semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem echoed through the halls of Malachowsky Hall at the University of Florida Feb. 7-9 during the 2024 Florida Semiconductor Week. Hosted by the Florida Semiconductor Institute, the workshop attracted a diverse selection of stakeholders, including state and local government officials, researchers from academic institutions, and industry leaders from prominent semiconductor companies. Woodard Strives to Strengthen UF's National Security & Defense Research Program The Florida Institute for National Security—led by Director Damon Woodard, Ph.D., and Associate Director Domenic Forte, Ph.D. – is an integral part of a groundbreaking $992,000 initiative at UF called Charting the Course to Preeminence in National Security Leadership. Support for the project, which is one of UF President Ben Sasse’s Strategic Funding Initiatives, comes from the $130 million in funding that UF received from the Florida Legislature last year. Farahmandi Works to Optimize Chip Lifecycle Management Yangbin Wang Rising Star Endowed Assistant Professor Farimah Farahmandi has received funding from the Office of Naval Research in support of her project “Optimized System Design for Assurance and Life-cycle Management (SaLEM).” The objective of the $498K project is to develop a sustainable and security-aware life-cycle management solution, called SALeM, that monitors the run-time behaviors and silicon status of microelectronic devices.  [ More ]

Feng Named Inaugural Rhines Endowed Professor for Quantum Engineering Dr. Philip Feng, ECE professor and associate chair for research, has been named as the inaugural Walden C. Rhines Endowed Professor for Quantum Engineering. The endowment will support Dr. Feng’s research program, focused on quantum engineering, novel materials, and nano-electricalmechanical devices (NEMS), as well as the creation of the Florida Semiconductor Initiative.  [ More ]

Arnold Named Fellow of National Academy of Inventors Dr. David Arnold has been named a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). This honor recognizes his work developing novel materials, the co-invention of MEMS microphone array technology, the 34 patents he holds, and multiple licensed technologies developed at UF. [ More ]
