WATER TREATMENT
Reverse Osmosis Maintenance

Reverse osmosis units provide a high quality water for our drinking needs but because they are usually located under the sink or crawlspace, they tend to be neglected.

Under the Sink Reverse Osmosis System

The old adage "Out of sight, out of mind" is very true for these devices.  We tend to change filters only when the volume or pressure is low and when filters are changed, owners don't always use sanitary methods.

A new product is on the market which ensures that your RO unit is clean and sanitary.  It's called Sani-System. This product comes in a sealed packet and is designed for the home owner or treatment

specialist to effectively disinfect your water treatment device. It has clear instructions for use printed on the back and is easy to use.

TIPS FOR MAINTAINING YOUR WELL
Irrigation Systems

Its well into fall season and time to put the garden tools away. If you have not winterized your irrigation system yet, you should plan on doing so by the end of the month.

Winterizing Irrigation System

Frozen irrigation pipe can be annoying and costly to repair. Ideally, the water supply valve shut off, all the lines should be completely drained out and the controller set to 'off'.

We usually use a large air compressor to blow all the lines out while we are cycling the various zones. This ensures that the lines and valves are empty of water.

With some of our customers that have lines in low laying areas, we have installed line bleeds that automatically open to drain the line every time the zone is not in use. These bleeds should be checked to see that they are still working at the end of the season.

Once the frost sets in, it may be too late.  If you need help winterizing your irrigation system please contact our office at: (604) 534-1115 to schedule a service call.

Winterizing

Time to lock up the cabin and get ready for winter. Winterizing your water system is an annual event. If you have a system that is not going to be in use over the winter, then the entire water system including pump and pipes must be winterized to prevent costly damage from occurring.

Pipes should be drained and blown out with air. Pumps should be drained disconnected from the suction pipe. If you have a submersible in the well make sure the hose bib at the bottom of the tank is left open after the power to the pump is turned off and lines in the house drained.

I recommend that the power breaker is taped off and tagged "Winterized" just in case someone inadvertently turns it on over the winter.

Heat tapes and lamps are a good method of protecting your equipment but they are also the biggest cause of fires in the winter months. Heat lamps and tapes must be in good operating condition and installed to manufactures recommendations.

We carry a good selection of heat tapes and devices in stock. Our staff can assist you with the best choice of product for your needs.

During the spring and summer, most people eat more carbs. However, they develop a tendency for fattier foods in the autumn, which leads to seasonal weight gain.
