Calendar Changes for 2019/2020
The district calendar for the 2019/2020 school year has been updated. The update means that students will return from winter break on Wednesday, January 8 and the last day of school will be Friday, May 22. These changes were made to allow our teachers extra work time.

Please note, the first day of school for 2019/2020 K-12 is Tuesday, August 13. Middle and high school students have their first full day of school on August 13. For elementary school students, the first two days of school are assessment days. Assessment days are essential and an important part of your child's attendance. Your student's school will work with you to make an appointment on August 13 or 14 for your child to report for assessments, and then the first full day of school for elementary students will be on August 15.

The first day of school for ECE at Maddox will be Wednesday, August 21.
Why Boredom is Good For Kids
It's tempting to solve the "problem" of boredom for kids, but it's actually essential for children to decide for themselves how to use unstructured time. It helps them learn become responsible at time management and inspires creativity.

This article from Aha! Parenting explains the importance of boredom (and of not using screens to solve it!) It also offers a long list of boredom busting suggestions you can use with your child should they find themselves with free time this summer.
