What To Do When You're 92!
We are very fortunate to have one of the finest craftsmen the military has ever known, Charlie Harber. Charlie has long been a volunteer docent and restoration crew member with Estrella Warbird Museum.
We are also very fortunate that Charlie is one of the favorite people to work with, or to learn with as he is ever so willing to share his knowledge and expertise with the younger generation. In this case, he can be seen honing the riveting skills as they work to gather on the restoration of our F-9 Cougar. The Cougar had been left for scrap in the hot arid desert around Mojave. Not only was it basically a shell of a once mighty bird, but it was also missing quite a few portions of its wings and tail. The Cougar may not be much to look at now, but give the restoration crew a few months. They've been known to produce some incredible results. You can find more information on the Grumman F-9 Cougar, here.
Oh, and that object in the background? That's our new Atomic Gnat 750, which is also in the process of being put together. Stay tuned for more news!

Here's Something New For Us
The Woodland Auto Display is rapidly becoming nationally known for its far reaching collection of historic race cars. Coming soon to an exhibit near you will be the famous #98 Parnelli Jones Midget racer. The midget race car in the below photo will soon be on display at the Woodland Auto Display. Just as our Bill Vukovich Sr #1 midget was one of the best known race cars in the country during the late 1940's and early 1950's, the #98 Parnelli Jones midget was equally as well known in the mid thru late 1960's.
This car was a prototype 4 cross torsion bar suspension racer and was built by Don Edmunds AutoResearch company. It hit the tracks in 1966 with Parnelli winning 70% of his starts while driving it. After Parnelli retired from driving open cockpit racecars, he would occasionally campaign it with Indy 500 veterans and champions. Those who subsequently had a turn at the wheel included Bobby Unser, Mario Andretti, and Al Unser Sr., a virtual who's who of that era.

Just in Time for Your Holiday Visitors
Sometimes, having visitors over the holidays can be very stressful. However, we have just the idea for a great experience which can be enjoyed by both the young and old, male or female of the clan. Bring them down to the museum and check out some of our newest displays. It's a great way to spend a day (or even two or three)! Everybody enjoys learning a little bit about their past and we are sure they will find something they can relate to here. Below is a taste of one of our newest additions. Located in the Woodland Auto Display now rests a recreation of one of the Indy 500 garages. Not only that, but the doors came from one of the Indy garages.

We promise the wraps will be gone and it will be stocked in time for the holidays! |
