Volunteer Opportunities
On the morning of Wednesday, August 18, volunteers from the Matt Garcia Foundation met at Sheldon Academy of Innovative Learning in Fairfield to welcome the elementary students back to in-person classes after a year and a half of being virtual. For some students, it was a welcome back, and for others, it was their first time ever being in an actual school. We made posters to help lessen their fears and hopefully make them excited for what will be a fantastic school year!

Feeling Stressed?
You’re certainly not alone if you are feeling increasing levels of stress and anxiety lately. Our daily life is filled with typical stress-causing tasks, including work, school, financial obligations, and family priorities. Add a touch of current events, such as wildfires and the pandemic, and it shouldn’t be surprising that so many people end up with life changing health disorders.
Here are five basic tips to help reduce stress levels and anxiety:

  1. Exercise more (walking, jogging, swimming, and biking are a few good examples). Yoga, meditation, tai-chi and other similar activities are also beneficial for health.
  2. Get more sleep.
  3. Eat healthier.
  4. If you are the type of person who gets over-committed, try saying “no” more, if possible.
  5. Try planning ahead more so you don’t end up with so many last minute tasks.
