A message from our 2019 President
Happy New Year and welcome to 2019!

With another year in the books, we celebrate the successes of 2018 in our personal and professional lives and plan for the next year. The Financial Planning Association of Minnesota has much to look forward to in 2019. Through our strategic planning, we have identified the following areas of focus for 2019: increasing diversity, reaching more members across Minnesota, connecting members that share similar interests, and continuing to improve communication with our members. Together, we will work to move these initiatives forward and I appreciate your participation.

Our Minnesota Chapter has an exciting event to look forward to in October – the FPA Annual Conference will be in Minneapolis October 16-18, replacing our local Symposium event for one year. This is a great opportunity to welcome financial planners from across the country and around the world for education and networking. Stay tuned to the newsletter and website for more details and to register for the 2019 Annual Conference. You won’t want to miss it!

Whether you participate on the board of directors, one of our committees or task forces, are a partner of FPA, pro bono volunteer, or engage in another way, thank you for the time you put into FPA. The association’s primary aim is to elevate the profession that transforms lives through the power of financial planning, and each of you contribute to elevating our profession through your engagement and involvement. I look forward to working with each of you this year!
January chapter meeting: Back-to-back sessions with Gail MarksJarvis
Tuesday, January 15, from 7:30-10 a.m.
We’re ringing in 2019 with two fantastic sessions featuring Reuters’ award-winn ing finance columnist, Gail MarksJarvis .

Cerulli Associates recently found that half of people with financial advisors are not sure they should trust their advisor. During hour one, MarksJarvis will relate the concerns that often come up and share how advisors can respond more effectively to clients.

It's no secret that the cost of college is rising. But many clients make college choices that aren't in their best interest, and some financial planners steer clients to colleges that are not as affordable as they seem. During this session, MarksJarvis will share cost-saving possibilities, tips to avoid tax-planning mistakes, and ways to steer clients to make better decisions.

Click here to learn more and register for the event . RSVP by 5 p.m. on January 11 to avoid a last-minute registration fee.

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Preeti Sam
Hello, FPA!

I'm Preeti Sam, a private banker in Private Wealth Management at US Bank. I work with high net worth clients and provide customized strategies for their personal and business lending and deposit needs.

I joined the FPA MN because of how involved this chapter is with the community and the wide variety of educational and pro bono events and services it provides. As the volunteer director, I connect the FPA volunteers with new and interesting volunteer opportunities.

Volunteering is important to me, because it’s my way of using my skills and resources to give back to those in need in our community.

If you are looking for volunteer opportunities with FPA, please send me an email to learn more. I look forward to working with you in 2019!
