December Chapter Meeting & Networking Social: Guiding clients to financial wellness

Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 2-6:30 p.m.

Saundra Davis, MSFP, FFC®, APFC®, FBS®, CSC

Executive Director/Founder

Sage Financial Solutions

Financial planners know that straightforward client communication is critical for building trust and mutual respect. How do we achieve that when honoring a client's values, vision and financial choices?

In December's mindful practices session, nationally recognized financial coach and motivational speaker, Saundra Davis, will discuss the five approaches to financial wellness and key coaching skills that support client accountability. Next, we'll practice the key elements of client behavior change with her assistance.

As "The Financial Coaches Coach," Saundra Davis supports financial professionals by challenging them to reach new heights in their communication with the people they serve.

Chapter meetings are held at the beautiful Metropolitan Ballroom & Clubroom in Golden Valley. You're also welcome to attend remotely.

Looking for staff? We can help fill your open positions.

Dave Leflar, FPA MN's Career Development Committee

Wouldn't it be nice to have some extra help around the office? Now is a perfect time to get the word out regarding full, part-time and internship opportunities at your firm.

Recognizing the need to post member and nonmember financial planning job openings, the Career Development Committee included a "help wanted" section on FPA MN's website. To be directed to the employment area, click here.

From this area, you can email your company's open position information to the Career Development Committee, which will then promote the site to upper Midwest students.

On the fence about internships? Many companies have found them to be win-win experiences. Mentorships benefit the financial community, help with administrative needs and can lead to future employment. An intern can work on that project sitting on the back burner. You may even inspire a student who's unsure about their career path to join the ranks of our profession!

If you have a position to fill, let FPA MN help! Post and see open positions.

Member Shoutout: Lory Wessel

This month we're celebrating Lory Wessel, a five-year FPA MN member who's been active with our chapter twice that time! She currently serves as our membership committee director and is the chief administrative officer and director of advisory relationships at Stonebridge Capital Advisors.

One of Wessel's first roles at Stonebridge Capital Advisors was communicating and scheduling FPA MN events and speakers for portfolio managers. After becoming involved in setting up chapter meetings, events, and conferences with her company's marketing team, Wessel's interest was piqued in learning more about the financial profession. She says that the depth of FPA educational resources benefited her career development.

"After becoming a member, I was encouraged to join a committee, get involved, and expand networking opportunities. Becoming an active member was the best advice ever! Event planning is enjoyable to me, so I joined the Membership Committee."

"The Financial Planning Association of Minnesota is truly a remarkable community of CFP and allied professionals. They have such serving hearts and care, not just for clients but for people in general. I have met many wonderful members and value the relationships fostered over these years."

Interested in the Membership Committee? Email Lory here.

"Make the most of your membership and consider how you can impact the future of the financial planning profession," advises Lory Wessel.

Stronger Together: FPA MN board members attend the Chapter Leaders Conference

FPA chapters may sometimes feel they are standalone entities, but we share membership with a much larger group.

Along with many FPA chapters from across the country, members from Minnesota's board recently attended the annual Chapter Leaders Conference in Colorado. Among other topics, FPA's national office representatives explained their priorities, including title protection.

Attendees shared ideas and best practices, and created connections and a broader network within the organization. There was also time to socialize with team members and others from around the nation.

We, indeed, are stronger together!
