Member shoutout: Jon Marquet

This month we’re shining a light on Jon Marquet, an FPA MN volunteer and 401(k) evangelist.

Jon was a litigator for more than 20 years before making a career change to the financial industry. As a law firm partner, he chaired his firm’s 401(k) plan sponsor committee – working with a financial advisor and other vendors to monitor, adjust, and administer the plan. Over time, he came to view employer-based retirement plans as a powerful vehicle for positively impacting financial lives. As a result, Jon decided to put his skills to use in the financial industry. He now works in wealth management, with a focus on working with business owners and their employees to institute, improve and administer employer-based retirement plans.

In early 2021, Jon joined FPA MN as an aspiring member.

“With my planned career change, the chapter seemed like it might provide some valuable information and networking opportunities. I spoke with several members before signing up. All were upbeat, fun and deeply interested in financial planning and the chapter. After joining, I attended several events, participated in a committee, and met many great people in the industry. My engagement with FPA MN made my career change much easier and more enjoyable than I thought it might be.”

Jon’s membership in FPA MN allowed him to meet and learn from several planners and advisors who work in the employer-based space. Eventually, he connected with a variety of advisors and other professionals at Trust Point and decided to start his new career there as a retirement plan consultant.

“Like everybody, I am always busy. But I am still a member of the Career Development Committee and try to help out when I can. Through the committee, I’ve met and worked with many wonderful people who are truly dedicated, interested, and involved in the profession and FPA MN. I’m also a regular at FPA MN's happy hours and events. The personal and professional discussions are engaging, informative and fun.”

Jon plans to further his chapter involvement by checking out more FPA MN committees whenever possible.
