May Chapter Meeting: Tips from the pros - charitable giving through IRAs

Joint meeting with the Minnesota Gift Planning Association

Tuesday, May 16, from 2-5 p.m.

Carlo Laurore

National Boy Scouts of America Foundation

As baby boomers age, so have the increased requests for implementing charitable giving through IRAs. In May's not-to-miss chapter meeting, you'll learn from several financial and philanthropic professionals how to start impactful conversations with your clients about the benefits of charitable giving.

During the first hour, Carlo Laurore, vice president and executive director of the National Boy Scouts of America Foundation, provides insight about marketing this option to donors of all net worth levels, how eligible donors can give via QCDs (including split-interest gifts) and how loyal QCD donors can shift to becoming legacy donors with the inclusion of organizations in their estate plans.

In the second hour, learn IRA giving strategies from a panel of tax, philanthropy, legal and financial professionals. Panelists include Christy Boysen, co-owner of Apex Legacy Consultants; James Aman, financial consultant at Journey Financial Consultants of Thrivent; Kelley Scrocca, attorney at Hellmuth & Johnson; and Sue Savarese, owner of Sannerud, Savarese & Associates PA.

Happy May!

April Meeting Recap

We had an extraordinary April meeting with the highest monthly attendance since 2019! Ron Wirtz from the Minneapolis Federal Reserve kept our attention with interesting facts and figures about our current national and local economic conditions. Everyone stayed busy with interactive poll questions as Ron gauged our opinions on various survey topics.

Can you spare some time?

Much of the 2023 programming is contractually bound, so the board continues working across committees to plan education and networking events for next year. We'd love to see more members involved in one-time projects or year-long committee planning, as nearly all the committees could use extra hands. If you need help determining where you'd be best suited, please contact me or any board member, and we'll help you connect with a project you'll love.

We're having a social after our May chapter meeting to recognize our new members. I hope to see you there!
