Happy New Year!
Have you ever been more excited to start a new year? Thanks to the various events that changed people’s worlds both personally and professionally this year, 2020 is one we will never forget.
Many things look different now, FPA MN included. I am so proud of our board and the leadership of our 2020 chapter president, Ingrid Strauss. Together as an organization, we quickly pivoted from traditional, in-person educational and networking events to virtual events. In total, we capped off 2020 with over 30 events, including a virtual national conference, virtual financial planning days and virtual chapter meetings.
What we’ve learned through this process is that while virtual meetings aren’t the same as in-person gatherings, they still can be very effective, informative and fun. Our goal this year is to average one or more events per week to do our best to keep you, our members, connected. Of course, we hope to be back in-person at some point and will take your temperature on general comfort about this subject along the way.
As chapter president, my goal is to help all of our committees make an impact on their respective audiences. I plan to do this by welcoming new ideas, challenging the norm and providing encouragement along the way. I am impressed by all that goes on behind the scenes to make our chapter stand out as one of the most vibrant in the national FPA network. When my time as president comes to a close a year from now, I hope to reflect positively on 2021 and feel I’ve made an impact.
In the meantime, I encourage you – whether you are a member, partner, board member, committee member or pro bono volunteer – to think about your impact on this community. If you are intentional about your actions, powerful things can happen. While I realize we cannot currently all sit in a room together to reflect on this (yet), we can still develop new relationships and grow our existing ones with colleagues and friends. We just need to be intentional.
I hope to see you all at one of the many upcoming virtual events, and welcome anyone to reach out if there is something I can do to assist you or better support our fine chapter.
Cheers to 2021!
Ryan

2020 FPA MN Distinguished Service Award recipient, Tiffany Walker
|
Each year, our chapter recognizes an exceptional member from our network of talented financial planning professionals who has gone above and beyond in their work and commitment to the association through its Distinguished Service Award.
We are excited to announce our 2020 award recipient – Tiffany Walker, CFP®, ChFC®! A strong leader who works hard and embodies the values of FPA MN while serving on the Pro-Bono Committee, Tiffany is always willing to lend a hand and provide thoughtful insight on financial planning issues. She has made fantastic contributions to our organization throughout the years. FPA MN would look very different without her influence.

Member shoutout: FPA volunteers
|
As we embark on a new year, we'd like to thank all of the FPA MN members who volunteered to help grow our chapter and benefit others.
In 2020, dozens of members shared their time and expertise to make our chapter better. From planning virtual events to collaborating with partners, committee members worked diligently to ensure that our chapter continued to thrive.
There were also dozens of FPA MN pro bono volunteers who made a lasting impact on the broader community. They volunteered to work with families struggling financially due to a cancer diagnosis through our work with the Angel Foundation. They volunteered to provide virtual one-on-one financial guidance to people during our Financial Planning Days event. These volunteers made a difference in hundreds of peoples' lives this year, helping them learn about their finances and develop a path forward.
Thank you to each and every volunteer who generously gave their time and expertise last year. We are glad to have such an active, engaged chapter.
