April Chapter Meeting: What's in store for our economy

Tuesday, April 18, from 7-10 a.m.

Ron Wirtz

Regional Outreach Director, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis

This month's chapter meeting focuses on Minnesota's economy – our economic activity and future, challenges and conditions and the role of the labor force.

During the first hour, the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis' Regional Outreach Director Ron Wirtz joins us to discuss the current state of Minnesota's economy and projections for what's to come. He'll explain the functions of the Federal Reserve, the impact of interest rate increases and the economic conditions pressuring businesses in Minnesota.

In the second hour, Wirtz discusses the role of the labor force in future economic growth. Using an interactive survey, Ron gauges attendees' sentiment regarding recent business activity, hiring demand, labor availability and financial future.

Chapter Update

Board President Bruce Lorenz

Happy April to you!

Meeting Recap

March was another information-packed month. Money Quotient President Amy Mullen engaged us in a conversation about how advisors can develop and maintain trust in a rapidly changing environment. She emphasized that being a client's fiduciary may mean the advice in their best interest could be different from the "right" textbook answer!

A few days later, members enjoyed a free webinar where Dr. Moira Somers and Dr. Carolyn McClanahan explained how financial professionals are often in the best position to see client impairment. The speakers provided practical solutions for financial planners when dealing with cognitive incapacity issues.

Membership Survey

Thanks to those who took the time to complete the recent survey. While reviewing the results, I was reminded of the nursery rhyme, "Some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it in the pot nine days old." When asked about the best times to hold meetings, some like them early, some like them mid-day, and some like them after noon with a drink to follow.

The board is currently reviewing the survey responses and has started to contact those who are interested in becoming more involved in our chapter. We appreciate your ideas and willingness to help shape the future of FPA MN.

I'll see you at the next chapter meeting!

Member shoutout: Lou Ann Matossian

Lou Ann Matossian, with Ameriprise Financial, may be considered a newer member of FPA MN (having joined in 2021) but she's already made a difference through her pro bono work.

"I've attended the new member reception, the NextGen Summit and social events, and the ASCEND conference networking events. With the CFP® exam now behind me, new professional opportunities are explored and I'll take a more active volunteer role in the coming year."

As a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®), and a CFP® Candidate, Mastossian gained experience through family office philanthropy and fundraising. She developed charitable planning skills, leading to wealth management and holistic financial planning.

"I'm a hands-on, values-driven advisor that loves to help clients in transition align their financial resources with their values and life goals. Being a career-changer, clients trust my life experience and professional knowledge."

FPA MN is grateful for its many volunteers.

Partner spotlight: April 2023

At Equitable Financial, we understand that registered investment advisors (RIAs) and their investment advisor representatives (IARs) need different types of retirement strategies for their clients. A fee-based annuity is an option for your clients’ portfolios, especially if they are looking for a level of protection from market downturns as well as the benefits of a tax deferred annuity.

Our straightforward, fee-based annuities, such as Investment Edge® and Structured Capital Strategies® family of variable annuities can add tangible value to your clients’ portfolios, help protect against the risks your clients face and seamlessly integrate into your advisory business, so let us help you:

Determine which clients might benefit from a fee-based annuity,

Understand how a fee-based annuity may help protect your clients and

Learn how Equitable Financial fits into your advisory business.
